* SeasonalRot: The fandom did not take well to Series 8, which was intended to be the start of "Phase 2" of the show, with the Johnsons moving to a new town and adopting a family of SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute children. The general sentiment was that it was a step too far and that the show should have just ended with the conclusion of "Phase 1", the Series 7 finale "Thanks for all the Earthworm Custard". While the fans grew to love CJ, introduced as a new arrival in Series 6, and Harry, Mel's replacement for Series 7, the new family and extended cast were not well-received. It also did not help that Series 8 began with Brian and Sophie's memories of the the show up to that point being wiped by new character [[Main/TheScrappy Guido]]. The backlash was ultimately reflected on Creator/CITV itself, as the channel eventually stopped bothering with reruns of Series 8, instead going straight back to Series 1 after Series 7.

* TheScrappy: Guido, the holographic avatar of the Galactic Guidebook who does not make himself known until the start of Series 8. His first scene has him deeming Brian and Sophie's mission to gather data on humans to be a failure in spite of all their experiences with the Barkers. As a punishment, he gives them the choice of disintergration or a memory wipe of their time on Earth. Under pain of death, Brian and Sophie are forced to accept the wipe, erasing their memories of the Barkers and leaving them a blank slate. Needless to say, this did not warm the fandom to him.
