** Many fans predicted that the RagtagBunchOfMisfits would include Trixie and Discord due to various tweets from the director and actor, respectively, suggesting they would be making return appearances in the season. Thorax was also a guess based on the recurring changeling element being built up in the season.
** The return of an old villain suggested in the synopsis led many to conclude the appearance of Queen Chrysalis, as she was one of the few previous villains still at large and the changelings have had a presence previously in the season. They are proven right as Chrysalis has launched a larger plan to conquer Equestria, this time making sure the entire Royal Family and the Elements of Harmony are already out of the picture and replaced by impersonators like she had done with Cadance.
** The changeling that replaced Applejack is eating a pear which proves that changelings aren't entirely dependent on love for sustenance and can consume foods as well.
** Many fans assumed Trixie has peanut butter crackers as her TrademarkFavouriteFood like her human counterpart. Here, she mutters them in her sleep.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: The Season 5 finale got some heat for glossing over the former Equal Ponies forgiving Starlight, just showing a brief shot of them hugging her without any lines. Here we see she still feels deep remorse about what she did to them, and is very insecure about actually spending time with them despite that forgiveness.

* BrokenBase:
** Naturally, this episode's premise, in which [[BaseBreakingCharacter Starlight Glimmer]] leads a group of reformed villains to save the Mane Six and the Royal Family from Chrysalis, will likely lead to that. However, the fact that some of the most powerful ponies in Equestria [[TheWorfEffect are easily defeated by changeling drones instead of Chrysalis herself]] also doesn't sit well, but it is provided a possible explanation in the very next episode and the reasoning behind it even ties into the main plot.
** Some people felt that basically everyone of importance in Equestria [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot being dealt with by the changelings offscreen with such ease and without a proper explanation]] seems awfully convenient for the plot, since it's the main reason Starlight and her squad ''have to be'' the ones to save the day. Some have suggested they could have chipped off small chunks of Chrysalis' throne to use in subduing the kidnappees; like an Equestrian kryptonite. Others have pointed out that this in turn presents the question of [[FridgeLogic why don't they carry pieces of the throne with them all the time]], if it is able to [[CurbStompBattle make your enemies resistance basically nonexistent]], and with instant null powers, they wouldn't even need the whole infiltration thing. In essence, it feels like a cop-out that the reason for the whole adventure is that they just already had them captured offscreen, and it reduces the rest of the cast (the Mane Six especially) in many people's eyes. Some have said it would reduce them ''if'' they were shown being kidnapped by normal changelings, but it has been also pointed out that the entire plot reduces them regardless, so showing it or not wouldn't change the issue.

* CouldHaveAvoidedThisPlot: Crosses over into ReedRichardsIsUseless territory on both accounts:
** During the events of ''[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS5E26TheCutieRemarkPart2 The Cutie Re-Mark]]'' when Twilight Sparkle and Spike both travel into the "Changeling Resistance Timeline" where they enter an Equestria where Chrysalis was never defeated, both of them come across a LaResistance led by Zecora who has with her a Salve that is designed to [[GlamourFailure forcibly strip a Changeling of their disguise when applied]], and the two of them never bothered to ask Zecora for a jar to take back to reverse-engineer, or a list of ingredients to help make some back in the main timeline, or even ask their own Zecora if it was possible to make it themselves. Without this, it seemed like Equestria was asking for another invasion or plot by Queen Chrysalis.
** Due to the fact that they had Thorax on their side: who not only knew the exact location of the Changeling Hive all along, but also knew the layout of the Hives' structure and weaknesses. He could have shared knowledge of both with Equestria in order to prevent the kidnapping plot from ever commencing in the first place by having Equestria set up fortifications around the Hive on the outskirts of the AntiMagic field in order to starve out the Changelings enough [[CivilWar that they would end up overthrowing Queen Chrysalis themselves]].

Cut and altered some of the wording to sound less spiteful and more neutral, but keep in mind that a lot of these YMMV tropes are inherently about people complaining about stuff for a given reason. And pretty much every YMMV trope is subjetive (it's what the abbreviation stands for after all), meaning it doesn't necessitate that every reader agree with what's written, or to always acknowledge every counter argument (barring Broken Base entries). They are there just to note that there were people who saw things that way.
