* DesignatedHero: The mane six spend most of the episode enjoying Gabby Gums gossip and don't show any real regret for enjoying the misery of ponies secrets being publically broadcast. Yet were clearly supposed to feel bad for and support them in ignoring, insulting and soaking the CMC in rain water when ''their'' embarrassing secrets end up in the paper. Rarity is particularly guilty of this, as she's (presumably) supposed to seen as the mature one for being willing to actually explain to Sweetie Belle why Gabby Gums is wrong. Which ignores the fact that even ''before'' the Gabby Gums incident, Rarity is portrayed as willing to violate other peoples privacy despite admitting it being wrong and even went so far as to [[NoSympathy coldly brush off her friends breaking down into tears]] over their secrets being published ''right in front of her''.

All TruthInTelevision, just look at the prevalence of tabloids and sensationalized news on the papers and TV.

** Fans have already decided Featherweight is Equestria's version of [[SpiderMan Peter Parker]] and therefore secretly the Spectacular Spider-Colt!

* BrokenBase: Fans are divided on the scene where the CMC are shunned by the whole town once their identities get found out somehow, whether everypony's reaction believable or not, and more so, was [[LaserGuidedKarma justified]] or [[DisproportionateRetribution hurtful]].

* FanonDiscontinuity: Some fans like to simply pretend that this episode never happened because of it's mean-spirited nature and how the rest of Ponyville came across as hypocrites to the CMC's.

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Not only do they come off as too mean spirited, the citizens of Ponyville, even amongst the Mane 6, don't have much right to behave they way they did considering they were enjoying the gossip about the other ponies besides themselves. In fact, their hostility towards the CMC only negates any sympathy they could have had.

Even when half of her friends break down into tears at having their deepest secrets revealed right in front of her, she, in probably the most mean spirited way possible, still continues to deny anything bad resulted from this and only considered Gabby Gums to be a problem after she saw her diary got posted in the newspaper, not to mention she only found out it was Sweetie Belle who did it because she snooped through her stuff without her permission a second time. While Rarity is far from the cruelest character in the Ponyville Confidential, she’s also clearly not the saint people make her out to be, though it could be because of just how cruel the ''others'' were that people tend to gloss over it.

* WhatAnIdiot: Diamond Tiara doesn't read the CMC's final scoop which leads to her downfall. Justified in that she didn't have time. The paper had to be out by a certain time, so the CMC [[BatmanGambit waited until the last second so Diamond Tiara would have to just trust they would bring in one of their usual gold columns.]]

* TheWoobie: While it is easy to blame the CMC for all the public humiliation they caused, though most of the blame goes to Diamond Tiara for [[TheSociopath not really caring about other ponies' feelings]], you can't help but feel for the three poor fillies when they're shunned by the entire town, including their own ''friends and relatives'', after word gets out about them being Gabby Gums.

* DudeNotFunny: The third act, where all of Ponyville shuns the CMC. It's one thing for Angel Bunny or Twilight to do so, since Angel is kind of a jerk to everyone and Twilight was the only one against the gossip at first. However, Rainbow Dash soaking the three in rain despite that she wanted a story about herself, as well as Applejack and Big McIntosh practically disowning their little sister, coupled with the three being blackmailed into continuing their work, made this more cruel than it needed to be.

* NeverLiveItDown: Even though M.A. Larson is considered by many to be one of the best writers on the show, they consider the fact that he wrote this episode to be completely unforgivable.
