%% * DesignatedVillain: We're supposed to side against the Dragon simply because the smoke from his snoring is endangering Equestria. Some of the Mane Six, especially Rainbow Dash, treat him like a villain although he clearly never means any harm unless provoked. It doesn't help when Rarity tries to steal his hoard and Rainbow Dash kicks him in the face. When Fluttershy gives him a talking to, he's more than willing to comply.

* WhatAnIdiot:
* When Twilight's attempt to lure the dragon out of the cave fails, Rarity steps up to the challenge. She does this by sweet-talking the dragon, telling him he needs to show off his radiant scales. This seems to work, even as Rarity notices the [[DragonHoard dragon's large treasure hoard]].\\
'''You'd Expect:''' Rarity to just ignore the jewels and keep bolstering the dragon into getting out of the cave.\\
'''Instead:''' [[SkewedPriorities Clearly wanting the jewels for her own personal gain]], she offers to watch over them once he leaves, even ''trying on'' some of the jewels while convincing the dragon to leave. Naturally, [[BerserkButton this upsets the dragon]] who chases her out.\\
'''Then:''' Pinkie Pie's plan to lure the dragon out with laughter also fails so Rainbow Dash becomes fed up. She tells her friends that she will get the dragon out of the cave herself, much to Twilight's horror.\\
'''You'd Expect:''' Rainbow Dash to remember how badly her friends' attempts turned out, take a deep breath and organize another plan with her friends.\\
'''Instead:''' She charges into the cave and [[BullyingADragon kicks the dragon in his snout]]. Needless to say, the dragon gets even madder and he starts attacking Rainbow Dash [[FromBadToWorse and her friends.]] He is finally stopped when [[ShrinkingViolet Fluttershy]] gives him a talking to.

Rewriting some entries to be less bashy.

** Rarity, did you really think it would be a good idea to tell the dragon you would watch over his hoard?
** Likewise, after seeing her other friends' failures, Rainbow Dash decides [[BullyingADragon kicking said dragon]] would be a ''[[SarcasmMode genius]]'' idea.

I don’t think this was unintentional, as Fluttershy noted that he wasn’t a bad dragon, he just made a bad decision.

First/only installments/seasons dont count since the changes are planned as opposed to done after the fact to improve the work.

* GrowingTheBeard: The earliest of several popular choices for when it happened. If not the definitive moment, it's at least agreed it was a step in the right direction.

** Aside from sympathetic reasons, a lot of people liked the Dragon simply because he looked a bit like [[Literature/TheHobbit Tolkien's description of Smaug]].

* HeartwarmingInHindsight: The Dragon ultimately being a JerkWithAHeartOfGold NobleDemon instead of just some one-dimensional monster. As of "Gauntlet of Fire", it turns out that most Dragons are actually similar to him.

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Again, the Dragon gets this treatment for being the most sympathetically portrayed one (other than Spike) on the show. He just wants to sleep instead of actually cause any destruction, he actually responds positively to Rarity (until he realizes she's trying to steal from him), he only becomes violent when Rainbow kicks him first, and he ultimately proves to be willing to listen to reason when Fluttershy stands up to him.
