About lack of screen time, not bad handling.

** "Movie Magic" showed Juniper Montage as, though an extremely petty WomanChild, as having some likable qualities such as loving her uncle and being just as big of a ''Daring Do'' {{Fangirl}} as Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash, traits that could have easily carried over to the next short she appears in. Come "Mirror Magic" however, and any likable traits to her character seem to be intentionally ignored in favor of her disrespecting everyone she comes across, slacking off, providing TheWorfEffect on everyone who isn't named "Starlight Glimmer", as well as an absolutely anti-climactic "fight scene", and being EasilyForgiven after the fact. The {{Novelization}}, however, seems to have addressed this.
** Unlike the other {{One Winged Angel}}s (Demon Shimmer, Midnight Sparkle, and Gaea Everfree), Juniper's alter ego -- despite being created via forcible AllYourPowersCombined from Sunset and co. -- has '''''no powers whatsoever''''' (only the basic strength that comes with her size). Instead she just stomps around, hallucinates that people adore her and runs after Starlight when she steals the MagicMirror.

** A perfectly good character design, maybe, but it might be somewhat disappointing for some that there isn't a MythologyGag to the Mane-iac's human doll when Sunset dresses as her, which is [[CostumePorn surprisingly elaborate]] (or unsurprisingly, as it ''was'' one of the SDCC 2015 ''MLP'' exclusives) and has some nice differences from her Pony counterpart.

*** Juniper's MagicMirror trapped the group in a WhiteVoidRoom. However, Sunset, Starlight and Twilight's difficulties with overcoming their pasts is a recurring character theme for them, and Twilight still being haunted by her actions as Midnight Sparkle was a central subplot of ''Legend of Everfree''. This would have been a prime chance to bring back Midnight, Sunset's demon form, and/or an evil version of Starlight, for a direct confrontation with their pasts as manifestations of the mirror's powers. Instead Juniper's mirror just acted to get the seven TrappedByMountainLions with nothing going on with them until the mirror was damaged.

** The specials ending with Twilight letting Starlight spend a few more days in the EQG universe, as well. Some see it as Starlight being shoehorned into a concept that didn't need her in it and possibly having another incident like described above, while others don't mind and want to see how the coming specials will play out before making their opinion heard.

** Almost literally in the case of Indigo Zap, who is the only Shadowbolt not to return for "Dance Magic" with no mention or explanation for her absence (WordOfGod is that she was on a cruise). **
The special "Mirror Magic" was disappointing compared to the very well received [[AuthorsSavingThrow saving throw]] for Friendship Games ''Friendship Games'' that was "Dance Magic" and the [[SoOkayItsAverage average]] tribute to Scooby Doo ''Scooby-Doo'' that was "Movie Magic", mainly due to the large amount of [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot wasted plot threads]] and [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter characters]] just to give the spotlight to [[BaseBreakingCharacter Starlight Glimmer]].
** "Mirror Magic" also suffers in comparison to [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirls all the]] [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirlsRainbowRocks Equestria]] [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirlsFriendshipGames Girls]] [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirlsLegendOfEverfree movies]], the ''Equestria Girls'' movies, since these have used their elements (especially [[ThePowerOfFriendship the main element of the franchise]]) in a more satisfactory way than in this special, even with any questionable element that the movies have had.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: One of many complaints about Juniper Montage in ''Mirror Magic'' "Mirror Magic" is that she's a major jerk even before her corruption. Her only motivation is that [[IJustWantToBeLoved she wants to be adored]], she actively talks back to her boss, she intentionally slacks off (and admits it outright), she [[WouldHurtAChild attempts to make a mother and child "go away" with the mirror]], and all she gets after trapping the first Humane 6 six heroines is a brief "OhCrap" expression before she's finally corrupted. She's supposed to be our [[DefeatMeansFriendship to-be-redeemed villain]] of the hour, by the way. Not so much in the {{Novelization}}, though, where she gets an AdaptationalAngstUpgrade that arguably makes her more of a legitimate JerkassWoobie.
