* MisaimedMarketing: The US dub renamed the film as "[[https://www.flickr.com/photos/mutantskeleton/5351389789 Godzilla Vs. The Thing]]" and the promotional art tried to portray the monster Godzilla would duel as a tentacled horror so terrifying, that the poster art had to be censored and the only way to see how horrifying it was was to see the movie. Never mind that Mothra, who isn't remotely scary [[note]]Unless you’re afraid of bugs or moths in particular[[/note]], is a good natured monster!

** The skeleton on Infant Island with the bobbing head. This has since become a character in its own right, as noted above.

** The close up of Mothra's attack on Godzilla at one point looks like it was either over-cranked or stop motion.

** The close up of Mothra's attack on Godzilla at one point looks like it was either over-cranked or stop motion.motion; the puppets also make a return here, still looking off compared to the larger props.

Added DiffLines:

** During the final fight between Godzilla and Mothra's babies; you can see not only the wheels pulling the larva puppets along in a few shots, but also Haruo Nakajima's face through Godzilla's neck as he struggles against the larva's webbing.
** Thanks to higher definition formats, stuff that wasn't as obvious before are now much more obvious, such as the wires on the tanks and the neckholes on Godzilla.

* UglyCute: Once again, Mothra, who is a giant fuzzy squealing ''bug'', yet one of the most endearing characters of the franchise. Part of it might be the contrast with Godzilla, who's straight-up ugly, though in the badass way. Even her caterpillars are ugly cute.

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Is Godzilla really such a bad guy in the film? When Godzilla awakens, he goes THROUGH Nagoya, but in no way destroys it. All the destruction Godzilla inflicts is caused by his clumsiness (his tail hits a gas tank startling him into firing his ray, his tail gets caught in the Nagoya TV Tower and manages to knock it over dislodging it, he trips and falls into Nagoya Castle then smashes it in either a fit of rage or in an attempt to regain his balance). If the removed U.S. version-only scene is to be taken into account, Godzilla may have been making a bee-line for the Pacific, at which point he is turned away by the blasts of the Frontier Missiles. Then, Godzilla spends the rest of the film loitering about on the Kanto Plain, where he is continually attacked by the self-defense forces for no real reason whatsoever.

The [[Film/GhidorahTheThreeHeadedMonster following film]] grabs onto this NonMaliciousMonster portrayal, saying that Godzilla only “hates humans because they hate him.”
