This feels supremely loaded, and also fallacious; yknow that Scorpion, Liu Kang, and Raiden are Asian and are designed as such as characters, right? I also can't even find many complaints about Mileena's Race Lift; if it actually is a thing, I'd like to see citations on it.

** Mileena has been criticized for not having a huge, fanged mouth like her previous incarnations and because the filmmakers choose a black actress to portray her despite Mileena having an appearance of an Asian woman in the games, with detractors ignoring that Mileena isn’t even human and therefore is not Asian or any other Earthrealm ethnicity. On the flip-side, the choice to have Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Raiden played by Asian actors instead of white actors like in their previous appearances hasn’t been met with, or received very little backlash.

Not disagreeing, but provide actual proof that the article was satire. Even then, beware of Deliberate Flaw Retcon attempts (considering that Jezebel isn’t a parody site and literally nothing about the article suggests it’s a joke).

** While [[Film/MortalKombatTheMovie the original film]] was well-received by fans and the first aversion to VideoGameMoviesSuck, it was criticized for being PG-13, cutting out the blood and death the games, even in their earliest incarnations, were famous for. This film is unapologetically hard R, with copious blood, gore, and death shown in the trailer, as well as hinting at several beloved classic Fatalities.
** The original film also had the characters of Raiden, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Reptile played by white actors instead of Asian ones (though Reptile is a debatable case, being from Outworld and, in the film, a statue brought to life by a CGI lizard-creature). No one really cared at the time, but in the years since, lack of Asian representation in mainstream media, especially those dealing with Asian martial arts, has become a topic of contention. This film sees Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Raiden played by Asian actors, and adds Kung Lao, also portrayed by an Asian, to the roster.

* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: While the first trailer was well-received overall, the fact that the film's lead protagonist is apparently CanonForeigner Cole Young confused many fans who were expecting an actual ''Mortal Kombat'' character to be the lead, such as Liu Kang or Johnny Cage (who so far seems to have been AdaptedOut).
