Given that here, she treated him like literal trash and thus even worse than he was an enemy, Adrien understandably cry and experiment [[DespairEventHorizon a depression so severe]] that Hawk Moth notices it.

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Gabriel deciding to not akumatize his son could be for 1 of 2 reasons:
** 1: As of this point, Gabriel doesn't know any information about his son that could be of any use to him. So, what good would it do to akumatize someone he's supposedly trying to make happy again? As he puts it.
** 2: Akumatizing Adrien is the line that Gabriel '''will not cross''', as he doesn't want to deliberately put his son in danger or involve him in any of this. Showing concern for his son's wellbeing and wanting to try and be there for him the only way he knows how.
** Perhaps it's a bit of both? It's really up to the audience to decide.
** The whole ordeal about Adrien's and Marinette's feelings is especially interesting from a narrative perspective:

When Gabriel recognizes the feelings of sadness and despair are coming from his own son, he decides to not akumatize him and instead try and talk to him to see if he is alright. Knowing that he has a bit of restraint on his desperation of achieving his goal is a sigh of relief when considering that we as the audience know [[Recap/MiraculousLadybugS03E22CatBlanc how low Gabriel is able to bring himself if he's desperate enough]].
