Updating Fandom Rivalry to reflect current opinions

** Naturally has one with ''VideoGame/GothamKnights2022'' and ''VideoGame/SuicideSquadKillTheJusticeLeague''. While still an extension of the long-lasting Marvel vs. DC rivalry, there's also a number of Marvel fans who are very disgruntled with ''Marvel's Avengers'' due to its "live service" approach compared unfavorably to ''VideoGame/{{Destiny}}'' and ''VideoGame/{{Anthem}}'', uninspired aesthetics that make it look MCU-lite rather than its own thing, boring gameplay, and controversial business practices such as keeping ''ComicBook/SpiderMan'' exclusive to Playstation as well as including an excessive amount of tie-ins with businesses like Verizon and Intel. And while neither ''Gotham Knights'' or ''Suicide Squad'' have shown much gameplay, the developers behind them do have a good track record when it comes to comic book video games, so it's not unreasonable for people to trust them to put out a good game.

* UncertainAudience: In terms of the game's visual design. While the game had a lot of similar design choices to the MCU, it was ''not'' part of the MCU and despite the photoreal graphics they didn't model the characters off of their actors in the movie. As such, it ended up in a weird spot of being off-putting to Marvel fans who were sick of the MCU's influence on everything, but also off-putting to MCU fans who wanted something that closer resembled the movies.

* ObviousBeta: The game has been criticized for having one of the worst launches in recent memory, with some calling it the worst technical state in which a AAA game has launched in years. It's fairly obvious that it was rushed out the door to avoid competing with the more crowded release market of November. The game had and continues to have major crashing problems on both PC and Console, severe performance issues even on high-end PC's, many daily and weekly missions don't properly reset, which prevents players from properly engaging in the endgame grind, enemies often fall through the floor (potentially preventing players from being able to complete objectives), matchmaking was completely non-functional on launch for many players, objectives would not spawn in properly, and a host of other bugs were reported by players. In late September 2020, Crystal Dynamics released a patch that included more than [[https://www.ign.com/articles/marvels-avengers-next-patch-will-fix-over-1000-player-reported-issues one-thousand fixes]], and even that still didn't fully fix the game.

** After a FreezeFrameBonus showing a skull-clad mercenary, it was widely speculated to be ComicBook/{{Taskmaster}}. Marvel officially confirmed that was indeed him.
** The SDCC 2019 presentation for the game confirmed that the narrator for the E3 trailer is indeed [[ComicBook/MsMarvel2014 Kamala Khan]]... and she's playable!
** Many speculated that if Spider-Man were to be added to the game, it would be the same one from the ''VideoGame/SpiderManPS4'' game and be exclusive to [=PlayStation=] consoles. As it turns out, Spider-Man was indeed the exclusive Sony content that was promised, though he is notably a different version of the character, not the same one from ''Marvel's Spider-Man''.
** Many didn't believe that Captain America [[spoiler:actually died on A-Day]], despite the rest of the game’s marketing trying to obscure this. They were right.

** The post-game content more-or-less portrays the Avengers as a renegade military unit, performing strike missions against enemies, with some choice dialogue indicating they ''kill'' some targets. Somewhat understandable with characters like Black Widow, Captain America, Iron Man and maybe even Thor, all of whom ''do'' no qualms about killing enemies they deem deserving of it. Bruce, however, is usually far more uncomfortable with the Hulk being used this way, Hawkeye has a strict ThouShaltNotKill rule and both Kamala and Kate are young idealists who are vocally uncomfortable with the idea of heroes killing, yet none ever voice discomfort with orders to kill. Not to mention, none of the Avengers ever note how questionable it is to be taking Kamala, a minor, onto what's basically black ops military missions.

* UnintentionalUncannyValley: One of the major complaints about the E3 reveal is how the characters look... Off, in large part because the designs are obviously trying to emulate the MCU designs while lacking the actors' likenesses. The result is that the game looks like a fan-film (not helped by the fact that some fans found the characters resembling ''other'' actors rather than the ones who play them in the MCU). The revisions seen at the San Diego Comic Con were seen as a massive improvement.

* BrokenBase: Fans are split on the use of Inhumans over mutants in the story mode. On one hand it gives them some more exposure and allows Kamala's origins to remain intact from the comic, plus acts as a good shake up to the mythos since the Terrigen Mist was man made rather then essentially be cosmic gas. On the other, it drums up bad memories of the "Inhumania" that was happening at Marvel around the late 2010s due to Disney and Fox butting heads over the rights to the mutant characters at the time, keeping them from appearing in other media and Marvel ''desperately'' trying to push the Inhumans as a replacement. With many speculating the game was written during that period of development, and often comes off like a cheap imitation of mutants. [[spoiler: Not helped that the final boss is essentially a Sentinel.]] Others find middle ground in being happy Kamala's in there at least and don't have to put up with the royal family who don't make an appearance, which makes it at least a bit tolerable, or just pretend this is a mutant plot in general.

The end of Avengers' lifecycle earlier than Cyberpunk and the changing discussion about its quality and added content no longer make this one as relevant

** With ''VideoGame/Cyberpunk2077''. Whilst ''Avengers'' was considered to have suffered a lacklustre launch, ''Cyberpunk'' would go on to suffer such a disastrous launch that both Sony & Microsoft would proceed to offer refunds to anyone who bought the game on their console marketplaces, with Sony going so far as to delist the game until it was fixed. Subsequently, ''Cyberpunk'' fans protested that it was no worse than ''Avengers'' so the treatment wasn’t fair, whilst ''Avengers'' fans argued that their game was in a better state as it could actually run on the hardware it was sold for.

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** A couple of more comic-accurate skins are available for Captain America to replace his disliked default look.
** Speaking of Captain America, he was given the ability to burst through doors with a heavy attack to get to otherwise unavailable loot, something he could not do at launch.
** Minor one, but the ability to run around in the outposts instead of walking is something met with relief.
** The ability to ping points of interest for teammates, in addition to general convenience, it allows the A.I. to join or help you with certain tasks. In the case of Black Widow/Iron Man, it allows you to get them to open previously locked doors that could not be broken.
** Hawkeye being one of the first characters added as DLC is this, both because of how his exclusion lead to complaints and the fact they even directly reference the memes about it beforehand. What's more, he becomes a ''major'' point of focus for the post-game storyline, with the first mission with him as a playable character even being something of a love-letter to his character, specifically the Fraction run.
** Following complaints regarding inaccuracies in Hawkeye and Black Widow’s ''Film/AvengersEndgame'' costumes[[note]]Both characters use their standard heads from their iconic costumes rather than the unique hairstyles the characters had in the film, and Hawkeye’s costume is designed for a left handed archer as opposed to the right handed archer in the game[[/note]] a greater effort was made to ensure the MCU costumes were accurate to the films and didn’t look off-model; with Mjolnir and Cap’s Shield being updated to their MCU designs, Hawkeye’s skins being modified to reflect the change in dominant hand between adaptations, and a greater attempt at recreating any unique hairstyles - such as Captain America’s bearded look from ''Film/AvengersInfinityWar''.
** The November 2021 update, in addition to adding Spider-Man as a playable character for [=PlayStation=] players and the Discordant Sound raid, directly addressed several issues players had with the game.
*** The power level was increased from 150 to 175, and levelling up gear (As described below under ScrappyMechanic) was completely overhauled - now, once you have an epic (or higher) gear piece of power level 100 or higher that you want to keep, you just need a higher level piece of gear in the same slot and enough resources (Now streamlined to a single resource) and then you can “feed” the higher level item to the item you want to keep, raising the power level to that of the item destroyed. The update also changed things so that you can complete certain weekly endgame activities once per character instead of once per account.
*** Exotic gear was overhauled, with each gear set now having a defined set of perks, allowing players to have specific gear.
*** The in-game cosmetic vendor was restored, with several new cosmetic options. In addition, earning Fabrication patterns was made easier[[note]]Each stage of the Mega Hive now awards one[[/note]] and players are now able to purchase Shipment crates, with multiplayer play awarding one crate free each day, and each a guaranteed unique costume upon purchasing 100 shipments within a month.
** After complaints over the difficulty of getting enough credits to buy enough shipments to unlock the Specialty skins each month, February 2022 saw the game include a Double Credit weekend and the cost of shipments being halved for the second half of the month, with the promise of providing the currency as a more common reward following the next update to the game.
