* MoralEventHorizon: Victoria had many moments of cruelty throughout the film, but in the present-day during the film she crosses it when she orders her "favorite" daughter Lisa to stay with Carlos even after she tells her that he beats her, simply telling her to "do what the man says" and focus on making him happy to avoid being beaten. As far as her ''past'' history, she crossed it when [[spoiler: she allows Vanessa's stepfather to rape her so that he wouldn't abandon the family. When confronted about this, she refuses to apologize and insists she "[[IDidWhatIHadToDo did what she had to do]]" in order to "save" the family.]] There was also a moment early on in the film where Lisa asks her when she would spend time with her two grandchildren through Vanessa, only for her to blithely answer with "I don't want to see those little bastards."

Not YMMV

* DisproportionateRetribution: There is ''no doubt'' that Carlos deserved what he got, but...there is a little more to say about his comeuppance. Anyone who regularly cooks grits knows that grits hold a high temperature for a ''long'' time after they've been heated up hot enough to be served. Carlos would be outright ''disfigured'' if she threw actual hot grits on his face and body. Those would be second to third degree burns, and the thing about grits is their tendency to cling to anything they touch, so not only would he be scalded on his skin and through his clothing, he would literally have to race into the bathroom and take a cold shower to actually get it it off, as it's not easy to wipe grits off of anything other than a perfectly smooth surface. We're not saying he didn't deserve it, but the method of payback does make her look rather cruel considering what would actually happen if someone threw hot grits on a person. It's doubtful it'd be enough to kill him, but boy, he'd be covered in permanent scarring and if any of it got in his eyes, he may end up blind as well. Woof.

* TheWoobie: Vanessa and Lisa. They're both under their mother's thumb, with the latter being pushed into an abusive marriage with Carlos because her [[spoiler:trust fund is almost gone and Victoria simply wants more money]], while the former has always been TheUnfavorite, since her [[spoiler: father left them]] and, to rub more salt in the wound, [[spoiler: to keep Lisa's father from leaving them, Victoria allowed him to rape her and is completely unapologetic about it]].

* SpecialEffectsFailiure: It is abundantly clear she throws cold grits on Blair Underwood. The issue isn't that they did it for safety; the issue is they could have just added a little bit of steam or heat effect in post to sell the scene. Instead, anyone who has eaten hot grits before can instantly tell those grits are ice cold.

* CatharsisFactor: Whether or not you feel the hot grits were too much, it is very satisfying to see Carlos get what was coming to him after everything he did to that poor girl.

* InformedWrongness: The wedding planner getting understandably upset at her hard work (supposedly) going to waste. Madea even tells her to shut up, and everyone takes Madea's side. What makes this unfair is that being a wedding planner isn't entirely the easiest job. It's stressful and it can take months to years to plan a wedding and even a lot of money spent. Although things worked out for the planner in the end, this scene still leaves a sour taste in some fans' mouths.

* CompleteMonster: Victoria. Let's see, she knew that her second husband was raping Vanessa and didn't do anything about it. Shamelessly stole money from Lisa's trust fund in order to live a luxurious lifestyle for herself. She outright tells Vanessa that she wishes she never gave birth to her and manipulates Lisa into staying with an abusive asshole of a fiancé just so she keep living the good life because she spent all of her daughter's money.
