* TheScrappy: Many fans seem to dislike Howard for his small-minded, conservative, condescending personality, though he at least gets somewhat better, being shown to care very much for his family and start bonding with Tom, who saved him from the snow creature. [[spoiler: He even lunges at Der Klown in a attempt to save his baby daughter, knowing fully well he'd be killed.]] But the biggest Scrappy is surprisingly Omi, whom many fans decried as detestable because she knew that Krampus was to blame the entire time, told the family her story too late, and ultimately did nothing much to help. Although in Omi's defense, would anyone have really believed her if she told them straight away that the weird things happening were the result of a demonic spirit intent on punishing them for lacking the Christmas spirit? Or would they've just written her off as a senile and/or crazy old woman?

* Omi sacrificing herself and staying behind to face Krampus and later Tom sacrificing himself to the underground snow beast. The look on his face before letting the beast take him away says it all.

* TearJerker: [[spoiler:Max's attempted HeroicSacrifice. He's literally ''pleading'' with him to spare the cousins, and to to take him to the underworld in their place. Krampus seemingly agrees... then reveals he had no plan of agreeing and sends them all to the underworld. [[AllJustADream So]] [[GainaxEnding it]] [[MindScrew appears]], anyway.]]

** Well...with Max being the exception.
*** This troper was not okay with watching the baby die either!!
*** The baby doesn't die. They carry her off to safety. Krampus isn't going to let a completely innocent baby freeze to death after her family is dead. The elves drop her off at a local hospital then return to finish off the rest of them.

* SignatureScene: There are four contenders for this so far.

* CrowningMusicOfAwesome: A repurposed version of "Carol of the Bells", dubbed "Krampus Karol of the Bells" plays over the credits. * UglyCute: Some have had this reaction to the monsters, like the Gingerbread men or Teddy. Even the terrifying Der Klown got hit with this due to the aforementioned scene where it's seen [[spoiler:hugging one of the elves]].
* VisualEffectsOfAwesome: Say what you will about the film as a whole, but you have to admit that Krampus and his helpers, particularly Der Klown, look fantastic. The film is a good example of how awesome and disturbing practical effects can be.

* [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot They Wasted Some Perfectly Good Folklore]]: The Krampus lacks the bundle of birch branches it is traditionally depicted as carrying, which would not be out of place in a horror movie.

* AndYouThoughtItWouldFail: A minor example, but a particularly hilarious one. ** Der Klown. Dear God, Der Klown. It's a very large, snake-like beast that swallows children and has a split-open mouth.
** The really intense chase sequence on the rooftops.
** The demonic toys are all creepy, but special mention goes to Perchta the Cherub, with her twisted eyes and lizard-like tongue.
** The final twenty minutes. DEAR LORD, the final twenty minutes are so rife with AdultFear and ParanoiaFuel that it's almost nauseating.
** The large unseen monster that burrows beneath the snow.

** RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: It seems intentional to set up numerous grating characters only to learn they're more useful or to show they're not so bad.

** Linda's MamaBear moment.
** Aunt Dorothy with the shotgun.
** "Hey asshole!"

* EnsembleDarkhorse: The Jack-in-the-Box Jester already is quickly becoming very popular with fans. In terms of the human characters, Tom and Aunt Dorothy are quickly becoming popular as well.

* NarmCharm: The Jack-in-the-Box Jester happily giving its elf savior a hug should be stupid. It's actually quite creepy in some ways and legitimately heartwarming in others.

** The Jack-in-the-Box Jester. Dear God, the Jack-in-the-Box Jester. It's a very large, snake-like beast, that swallows children and has a split-open mouth.

** The demonic toys are all creepy, but special mention goes to the angel, with its twisted eyes and lizard-like tongue.

** Whatever the tunneling things are they move very fast and bite.

** Any scene between Max and Omi (especially the scene at home right before the extended family arrives).
