* NeverLiveItDown: Yamai's introduction having her kidnapping and threatening to kill Tadano, [[{{Yandere}} all so that she can have Komi to herself]] left a bad taste in a lot of readers mouths. And while she never stooped to this level of instanity again, the fact that she continued to be hostile towards Tadano and [[MemeticMolester creepy towards Komi]] didn't win her any fans either. It was only much later in the series that she started growing beyond her yandere-shitck, but by that point [[TheScrappy it was too little too late]].

* DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale: If you take away her smile and relation to the MC, Hitomi's behaviour towards Shousuke is that of a deranged stalker.

** This comes to a boiling on Chapter 188, where we are introduced to most of the classmates of Komi & Tadano at once. Part of the fanbase did like them for being less manic towards their devotion towards Komi and is okay with Tadano, but some found them to be gimmicky regarding their PunnyNames (thought no fault of their own since before the summer vacation only Manbagi and to a lesser extent Ase is fully introduced to us).

** Takarazuka, the Bishoujo character introduced in Chapter 211 for being a supportive person towards Komi and support her relationship with Tadano. But the bigger reason why she liked because [[spoiler: she indirectly gets Komi to break the status quo on the romance plot line in a huge way]].

** For starters, Tadano & Katai. For being a character that was initially introduced rather late in (Chapter 76), his focus chapters and his later chapters in attempting to bond with Tadano would actually make him a legitimate love rival for Komi if Katai were a girl. His first interaction with Tadano after getting a love interest in Katou [[spoiler: is being the first person to give Tadano a friend chocolate during Valentine's before Komi could]]; and during the second year sports festival, all of Tadano's love interests have time dedicated to how they see him (Komi's POV and Manbagi's POV)...including Katai. Then the second year school play, [[spoiler: which is almost word by word copied Komi's confession towards Tadano]].

** "Just get married already"[[labelnote:explanation]]From the field trip, where the class' tour guide sees Komi and Tadano talking about the sights and generally acting like a married couple, resulting in her thinking this. The panel of her is often used in response to couples[=/=]mutual romantic interests in other works, usually when there is some extremely cute event or ship tease, to indicate that the reader wants them to get to the point and just get married[=/=]become a couple.[[/labelnote]]
** Tadano Bowl[[labelnote:explanation]]As explained below in ShipToShipCombat, the introduction of Manbagi as a second potential love interest to Tadano has led to fans nicknaming the love triangle the "Tadano Bowl." Katai is often times jokingly thrown in as a ThirdOptionLoveInterest.[[/labelnote]]

* ShipToShipCombat: After a relative stable first year for Komi & Tadano (with the biggest obstacle between them being their own insecurities), the second year introduced us to Manbagi, who ended up having a crush on Tadano. Wouldn't be an issue if Manbagi wasn't likable in her own right. Of course, before Manbagi we have Katai as the competitor for the first year...for Tadano.

** Subverted with Naruse, who is the second male character introduced after Katai, who initially has a less than stellar reception due to his quirk of being a narcissist and seems to be introduced just to group Tadano & Katai in their Field Trip. Then, his ButtMonkey antics and his surprising kindness ended up making him likable to the readers.

* UnpopularPopularCharacter: Downplayed. Tadano Hitohito gets the ChewToy treatment in-universe, being [[TheFriendNobodyLikes resented by his classmates]] for befriending Komi so easily despite being a RidiculouslyAverageGuy. Despite this he doesn't have trouble getting along with classmates when they're not vying for her attention and he is accepted as her TranslatorBuddy. The reaction in the fandom has been the reverse, to the point where it's characters who are more outwardly antagonistic towards him, such as Yamai, who gets viewed as TheScrappy.

** Manbagi Rumiko; at the start of her second year she became a loner partly because her excessive makeup resulted in people avoiding her and partly because none of her friends from her first year were in the same class, causing her to stress up to the point of throwing up. Fortunately, Komi was able to calm her down and console her, and they became friends in the process.

** Onemine's this thanks to her introductory chapter, as she's one of the first aside from Komi and Najimi (relatively in the latter's case) to treat Tadano well, and [[spoiler: decides to support Komi & Tadano]]. An [[https://i.imgur.com/yqMCjIN.jpg official popularity poll]] also had her edge out the considerably popular Manbagi for third place, right behind Tadano and Komi themselves, and that was even after her appearances in the manga were lessened due to the change in classes.

The demand was so high that when an official release was announced, numerous fans became incredibly excited before realizing it was just an official English translation.[[/labelnote]]

* NoYay: Sexualizing Komi is typically looked down upon by fans, with the exception of vanilla lewds[[labelnote:*]]explicit art that depicts two individuals having mutually consensual sex-- without any portrayal of kinks, fetishes, etc-- out of romantic love for one another[[/labelnote]] depicting her with Tadano.

* NoYay: Go and claim that you're gonna sexualize Komi. I dare you.

* ToughActToFollow: To be fair it will take a lot for somebody to be as close to Najimi's personality, but the reception of Agari Himiko was so lackluster that despite being one of Komi's first friends, Yamai quickly replaced her spot in Komi's group and her scenes got gradually lessened. Ironically, [[TheScrappy Yamai was even less well-received]].

* CrowningMomentOfAwesome: Komi delivers a clarification towards Yamai -- a {{Yandere}} who is threatening both Komi and her friends with a knife -- that she will choose her friends for herself after revelations that Yamai has kidnapped Tadano; this leaves Yamai frozen like a statue as Komi and Tadano leave her apartment, before the girl slowly falls to the ground crying as she realizes [[HeelRealization just how badly she screwed up everything]]. The next day, Tadano echoes Komi's line when she is having doubts whether she should still be friends with Tadano after what has happened to him.
