Low Tier Letdown is for characters who are almost unusable, or have otherwise received significant backlash for being terrible. Rick is the worst of the three Animal Friends, but not to such a degree to qualify for this trope.

* LowTierLetdown: Out of the three Animal Friends in this game, Rick is widely agreed to be the worst. While Coo is considered a GameBreaker and Kine is useful enough in the water to make up for his awkwardness on land, Rick barely improves Kirby's mobility; he runs slightly faster and doesn't slip on ice (which only appears in Iceberg to begin with), while also removing Kirby's ability to fly. Speedruns only use Rick to grab the Rainbow Drop in Red Canyon that requires him, otherwise sticking with Coo and Kine. ''VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand3'' would give Rick several buffs, upping his movement speed and giving him the ability to WallCrawl and GoombaStomp on enemies, which puts him more on par with the others.

* ContestedSequel: This game is widely regarded as being better than the original ''VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand''; it's larger in size, more challenging, has more in-depth and interesting level design and brings in the copy abilities from ''VideoGame/KirbysAdventure'', on top of introducing the Animal Friends, bringing in more variety. However, how it stands on its own tends to be a divisive topic. Some consider it to be one of Kirby's best 8-bit outings due to the explorative level design and the addition of the animal buddies on top of the copy ablities, while others consider it to be one of his weakest entries due to the slower gameplay, the rainbow drops often being annoying to get and the levels being more [[SequelDifficultySpike unforgiving]] than in either ''Dream Land'' and ''Adventure''.
