** With some exceptions, Stands are just mindless automatons. Fans love to give them a personality, like Killer Queen acting like a cat, or The World being Jonathan mindless spirit. In fact, some fans even like to portray King Crimson as the true villain of Part 5, being a Stand that gained control of its user, like Anubis. It helps that Diavolo's backstory is pretty ambiguous.

** Which part is the best part? A lot of fans consider Steel Ball Run to be the best from a literary standpoint, but the different parts are so numerous and varied that they all have their own rabid fans.

to:

** Which part is the best part? A Each part is different in its own way, so each of them has its rabid fans and haters. The most divisive parts tend to be the following:
*** Part 1, Phantom Blood. It's near-universally considered to be one of the weaker parts, but the debate is on whether it's still good on its own, or a boring slog that acts as a steep barrier to cross in order to get to the good parts. The most controversial aspect by far is the SlowPacedBeginning, which is almost entirely lacking in action and fighting, instead belonging to the genre of drama. Some fans enjoy the insight into AllLovingHero Jonathan and [[KickTheDog Dog-Kicking]] Dio's family life, while others find it beyond boring.
*** Part 3, Stardust Crusaders, is the part that introduces the series' signature gimmick, [[FightingSpirit Stands]]. Part three fans love how the Stands allow every fight to be very unique and creative. The BigBad DIO gets a
lot of praise, being one of the most popular and [[FountainOfMemes quotable]] villains in manga history. Some fans are also fueled by nostalgia, as for decades Stardust Crusaders was the only part to be marketed in the West, with the OVA and [[VideoGame/JoJosBizarreAdventureHeritageForTheFuture Capcom fighting game]] being many fans' first taste of [=JoJo=]. But the part also has many detractors, who criticize it for [[MonsterOfTheWeek its highly formulaic structure]], extremely basic and simple plot, large amount of {{Plot Irrelevant Villain}}s, and relatively plain Stand abilities compared to those in future parts. The protagonist, Jotaro Kujo, is also polarizing, with his fans loving his [[TheStoic stoic personality]], while his detractors consider him a boring, emotionless character. There's also a small minority who dislike how [[SoLastSeason Stands result in Hamon being almost entirely phased out of the series]], and wished that Hamon was still the Joestars' main weapon.
*** Part 5, Vento Aureo, is loved and hated for similar reasons to part 3. It brings back the MonsterOfTheWeek formula that made Stardust Crusaders so polarizing, although this time the abilities tend to be more diverse and interesting. The group of heroes is considered to be one of the best in the series thanks to their close bonds, although the protagonist, Giorno Giovanna, is sometimes criticized for being a SupportingProtagonist who takes a back-seat to Bruno Buccellati. Another common criticism is the BigBad, Diavolo, who is either a mysterious and threatening figure, or a boring and generic villain with incomprehensible motives. The final confrontation is also extremely divisive, with its detractors pointing to the MindScrew-worthy abilities of the characters making the action nearly impossible to follow, and the climax being a colossal AssPull.
*** Part 6, Stone Ocean, is controversial mostly for its ending, [[spoiler:which acts as a huge ResetButton for the entire franchise]]. Some fans applaud the audacity of [[spoiler:killing off the heroes and resetting the universe]] and consider it an emotional sendoff for the original universe (as the next part,
Steel Ball Run to be the best from Run, is a literary standpoint, but the different parts are so numerous and varied ContinuityReboot), while others feel it [[ShootTheShaggyDog makes everything that they all have their own rabid fans.happened up to this point completely pointless]]. It also feature some of the strangest Stand abilities in the series, sometimes bordering on nonsensical, such as Dragon's Dream and Heavy Weather, which some consider to push the "Bizarre" part of the title a bit too far.

** The ending of Part 6 is also very polarizing due to effectively [[spoiler:resetting the entire [=JoJo=] universe and starting a new continuity]].

*** At AnimeEXPO 2016 it was revealed that the English dub for ''Stardust Crusaders'' would drop the accents. Some are okay with it since the accents were considered by many to be the weakest part of the dub and it allows the actors to give a more natural performance. Others however aren't fond of the change since it's inconsistent and supporters felt that it made the dub more fun.

** Although Jotaro/Kakyoin is [[FanPreferredCouple hugely popular in the fandom]], the two are not very close in the original manga, given that Jotaro does not talk much to anyone in Part 3 aside from his grandfather. In fact, their interaction in the source material is so limited that it actually leans closer to the CrackPairing side. Much of the pairing's popularity appears to stem rather from [[MrSeahorse an infamous doujinshi]] made by {{CLAMP}} in the early 90's (as well as the two main characters in one of their works, ''Manga/{{Wish}}'', very strongly resembling Jotaro and Kakyoin in both names and appearance). Seeming acknowledged in ''[[VideoGame/JoJosBizarreAdventureEyesOfHeaven Eyes of Heaven]]'', where Jotaro and Kakyoin are part 3's 'official' duo similarly to how Joseph and Caesar are part 2's duo.

** The recasting of certain characters in Part 4 is a point of contention with some. Creator/WataruHatano is replaced by Creator/YukiOno as Josuke, Creator/RomiPark is replaced by Creator/YukiKaji as Koichi, and Creator/HiroshiKamiya is replaced by Creator/TakahiroSakurai as Rohan. Fans are either annoyed since they think the first set of actors portrayed the characters best; happy, as they think the new actors are good choices; or confused as to why they're being replaced while still thinking the new seiyuu will do a good job. It doesn't help that this announcement was made before the release of ''Eyes of Heaven'' (which uses the first cast) and Creator/YukiKaji playing Johnny Joestar in ''All Star Battle'' and ''Eyes of Heaven'' already.

** In ''Manga/DragonBall'', which ran in the same magazine that ''JJBA'' did prior to the latter moving to Ultra Jump, Guldo, who had the ability to stop time, was introduced, and he is widely seen as a JokeCharacter, since he had to hold his breath while using said ability, and he was unceremoniously killed off by [[TheRival Vegeta]][[note]]to be fair, he did give Gohan and Krillin an ability, but it's worth noting that at the time, Gohan was a child, and Krillin was a human[[/note]]. A few years later in ''Stardust Crusaders'' DIO gets the same ability, but ends up being one of the most powerful characters in the part!
