* JerkassWoobie: Alan in the final episode of Season 2, although heavily debatable. He's still a complete idiot, but nearly everyone is making offhand remarks about his book being destroyed, he's told he hasn't bounced back at all, and he's seemingly starting to have ''another'' breakdown. Even the ActuallyPrettyFunny anecdote regarding Creator/PeterPurves at the end of Season 2 feels like him clinging to the last traces of his own self-worth.

Added DiffLines:

* SecondSeasonDownfall: The second season went overboard on the sitcommy elements, particularly Alan's Ukrainian girlfriend Sonja, and whilst the first season could have you feeling sorry for Alan, the second made him wholly self-centered and unlikeable. The travel tavern in the first series was a much better setting than the caravan, because it allowed Alan to interact with more characters. The second series is certainly watchable, just a step down.

* GettingCrapPastTheRadar: The joke about Alan watching Bangkok Chick Boys for 15 minutes and stopping it might go over some peoples' heads, if they aren't familiar with that being a typical length of time for ADateWithRosiePalms (and indeed, stopping the video when he lost interest).
