Scrappy only counts if they're consitently hated. Allyson's characterization while poor doesnt retroactivly make her worse in prior films

* TheScrappy: Allyson's characterization in this film was received negatively by many, mainly due to her ignoring Laurie's absolutely valid concerns that [[spoiler:her new boyfriend is becoming increasingly dangerous]]. [[TookALevelInJerkass Cruelly blaming her for the events of the previous films]] and initially believing [[spoiler:[[NotWhatItLooksLike Laurie to have killed her]] actually NotQuiteDead boyfriend upon stumbling to the scene]] didn't endear her to many viewers, nor did her impassive and callous BrattyTeenageDaughter attitude about Laurie's ShellShockedVeteran status. Some fans also did not like [[BadassDecay how much of a relative backseat she took in her involvement in fighting Michael]], nor does she get a chance to redeem herself by fighting Corey. To be fair, Laurie seemingly got over her shell-shocked status at the beginning of this film and falls right back into it over the course of the film after having a few more years out-of-story to deal with it. Although considering what Laurie has been through, you would think Allyson would understand.

** The fact that [[spoiler:Michael observed Corey and Allyson having sex and did not attack them. Looks like Michael genuinely saw Corey as a successor and as willing to leave him and his loved ones alone until Corey spoiled it by betraying him.]]

Evil Is Sexy has been dewicked.

* EvilIsSexy: [[spoiler:Corey Cunningham]] is seen as this, given he's a very attractive young man with a sympathetic backstory. Even [[spoiler:Allyson]] falls for him very quickly.

** After being built-up as stronger than ever and slaughtering ''dozens'' of people on-screen in ''Kills'', Michael's status as an unstoppable murder machine takes a surprising hit as all the abuse he took over the course of ''Halloween'' (2018) and ''Kills'' managed to stick. This leaves him so weak that [[spoiler: he needs help to kill a man he ambushed, gets beaten up and robbed of his mask by Corey and gets pinned down and killed by Laurie one-on-one]]. The movie's attempt at portraying him as [[spoiler: a dangerous yet very mortal man who was seen as a supernatural boogeyman because of the fear that Haddonfield projected unto him]] doesn't gel with ''Kills'' depicting him as a genuinely supernatural threat capable of enduring a beatdown from a mob before slaughtering them all single-handedly (granted, he did benefit greatly from the mob holding a collective IdiotBall and [[MookChivalry only attacking him one at a time]]), and even this very movie with [[spoiler: the scene where he and Corey lock eyes with one another, activating the evil in the latter]].

* ContestedSequel: Probably the most divisive film in the franchise since [[Film/Halloween2007 Rob Zombie's remake]]. Generally, it comes down to whether or not one finds [[spoiler: Micheal being DemotedToExtra and Corey being the main villain]] an excellent subversion and meta-take on the franchise, or an insulting move to fans and a complete waste of a proper GrandFinale for this continuity.
* CrossesTheLineTwice: As brutal as [[spoiler: Willy's death]] was, there's something [[BlackComedy darkly hilarious]] about [[spoiler: his severed tongue landing on the record player and constantly interrupting the music by hitting the needle, ''[[IsThisThingStillOn all while still on the air.]]'']]

** Michael taking on Corey as a protégé could have been really cool and interesting, possibly leading to a conclusion where the two of them take on Laurie and Allison together. Instead, Corey rather spontaneously decides to [[TheStarscream betray and usurp Michael]], which doesn't do either character any favors and leads to a final battle between Laurie and Michael that is completely disconnected from any of the Corey stuff.
