* DiagnosedByTheAudience: Several people have read Anthony Carver as neurodivergent, specifically on the Autism spectrum; evidence cited for this includes how he's not good in social situations with specific people but blossoms around others, and how Coyote addresses him as a 'broken man' when viewing him through the ether.

* MemeticMolester: Anthony Carver, with him stating that [[http://gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1894 Surma's makeup looks sexy]], has raised all sorts of questions as to how he feels about his daughter's makeup, considering he told her to take it off upon seeing her for the first time in several years... ** Surma, in spades. She ''never'' told Antimony about her heritage, deceived Renard into thinking she was in love with him (which led to ''several'' deaths) and cheated on Eglamore with Anthony. Antimony can try to paint her with the DeadParentsAreTheBest brush all she wants, but after Chapter 64, several people say that her and Anthony are ''both'' bad parents.

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: The final word on Anthony in Chapter 80, which functions as a character summation for him, is that he is a flawed but sympathetic man who has made many terrible choices but his most persistent and obvious character flaw is the result a mental illness he can't control. Annie understands and accepts this and, while she's far from happy about some of the things he does and has done, she loves him as her father regardless. Many fans consider this far too generous to Anthony, noting the lack of any sign of him seeking therapy or taking other steps to combat his illness and viewing Annie's acceptance of him as her glossing over his abusive behavior.

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: UnintentionallySympathetic: People were rooting for Eglamore to punch out Anthony in Chapter 64 after he won over Surma, in part because Surma cheated on Eglamore with Anthony, but mostly because at that point in the comic, Anthony was such a massive [[TheScrappy Scrappy]] that people wanted to see him in pain.

** Related to the above, Anja calling Annie "proof of her parent's love" rings hollow when Anthony's abusive behavior shows no signs of improvement after almost a decade of his presence in the comic, and seems like she's attempting to cover for his abuse.

** Chapter 51 ("The Tree") due to Anthony's return leading to major changes in Antimony's life, including new living arrangements and Annie cutting her hair. The over-arching story-line started in April 2015, and has been going on for more than two years real time; the entirety of the sixth volume, Dissolve, is essentially the fallout from this one chapter, with little overall plot advancement.

** Anthony Carver, one he returns to the Court in Chapter 51, is extremely controversial in the fandom due to his emotional coldness and his harsh initial treatment of Annie, and the obvious effect it has on Annie's mental wellbeing. Either Anthony's actions were the misguided fumblings of a traumatised, neurodivergent man who nonetheless loved his daughter without being able to express it, or they were unforgiveable emotional child abuse. The controversy reached its apex with Chapter 80, as Annie's explanation of her sense of their relationship was interpreted by some fans as the author directly rebutting the readers who found Anthony's conduct unforgiveable.
