** Definitely an invoked trope. Klaus isn't the former TropeNamer of TheExtremistWasRight for nothing, and [[EmperorScientist iron-fisted ruler of half of Europa]] or not, it's pretty clear he's only an antagonist at all because he [[WrongGenreSavvy severely misjudged Agatha's role in the story]], and a combination of fate, escalation, and stubbornness worked to keep him from ever reconsidering.

** Even before the above, Klaus was at least skirting the line with his brain coring experiments: Klaus would take a Spark, and remove chunks of their brain, one at a time, until they either 1) [[BroughtDownToNormal no longer had the Spark]] or 2) [[FateWorseThanDeath were so badly brain damaged they couldn't function independently anymore]]. It's hinted at that the Baron reserved this fate for only the most dangerous of Sparks, but unfortunately "dangerous" and "unsympathetic" are not synonymous. Not helped by also being, by his own admission, one of the few tasks left to him that he [[ForScience genuinely enjoys]]. To his credit, he does seem to be mindful of his test subject's "quality of life", post-experimentation, giving them quarters and menial jobs, and claims he's "getting much better" at it.

** The novels do a slightly better job of justifying this, making it plain that Agatha's feelings for Lars are more of a fling that true love (and she herself is aware of this). It's still a little {{egregious}} that he goes completely forgotten, mind.

** The various tools Agatha's forebears left in the medical lab she and Gil try to cure Tarvek in are all designed for horrifying uses, except the scream generator which was just for ambiance without it actually having to injure someone to make the noise, including [[http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20090814 replacing blood with molten brass and eight different types of electrocution.]]

** The fate of Hraggel's Point, as described by two of Gil's agents who had [[http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20150615 horrifying front row seats:]]
--->'''Woger:''' Hraggel's Point. The whole town's been ''wasped''—and ''we'' were ''there.'' [...] We were supposed to sniff out [Herr Drumblebekk's] storehouses and trace his buyers. We tracked him to the second basement of a roadside inn. There was a hidden door in the floor, and when he went to open it it opened from the ''other side.'' I don't think he was expecting ''revenants.'' Yes, and these weren't just nice people mind-controlled by the Other... these were old style ''shamblers.'' They had ''masters.'' It was an ''invasion.'' Quiet. In the dead of night. They came up all over town—through basements and tunnels. Once the town was infected they ''left'' the same way. Then everyone went back to sleep, like nothing had ever happened. It was really ''creepy.''

** Notably, Klaus Wulfenbach appears to have this status in-universe. When he threatens to kill someone while immobilized in a hospital bed with only the power of his mind, even people who've worked closely with him are only '''mostly''' sure he can't do that.
