* CompleteMonster: [[MadScientist Mara]] is the Keymaster who co-founded Dharma Tower with Adam before killing him and all of his Ghostrunners, so she could [[TyrantTakesTheHelm rule over the tower's denizens as a tyrant]]. Mara would have any who rebel against her rule killed, sending Hel and the Keys to eradicate the Climbers, and leaking radioactive dust into Sector 5 to kill thousands, women and children included, as punishment for the people's defiance against her. Those whom Mara doesn't kill she has taken to her labs, where she [[UnwillingRoboticization forcibly converts them into feral cybernetic abominations]], having already done so to countless innocents. Mara intends to convert the rest of humanity, save for herself, into these mindless beasts in her [[NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist twisted and selfish ambition]] of creating a race that could survive the outside world's toxic air.

* MagnificentBastard (''Project_HEL'' [[DownloadableContent DLC]]): Connor is a cunning leader of the Climbers, the rebellion group who fights against Mara's regime. In reality a DoubleAgent for Mara, Connor manages to gain trust of all Climbers, leading them to attack Mara's forces, while secretly leaking information about them to Mara. As the Climbers were being annihilated by Mara's forces and Hel, Connor crafts a clever plan to escape, managing to manipulate the residents of all sectors to join the Climbers in a fight, which slowed down Mara's forces, while he and handful of survivors will flee, not caring that all those who joined the fight would be killed. Escaping with a handful of the Climbers, Connor managed to survive the battle, with none of them being the wiser of his true colors.

* BreatherBoss: TOM is a BulletHell of a fight, with lasers rotating in every direction and forcing the player to juggle forward movement, timing, and situational awareness. Mara's fight isn't a slouch either, featuring long stretches of back-to-back attacks as the player waits for her to open up to BossArenaIdiocy -- and is immediately followed by [[spoiler:the brutal [[LevelInBossClothing "fight"]] that is the Architect]]. On the other hand, HEL's boss fight, which is placed between the other bosses of the game, is far easier. Her first attack type is a flurry of strikes that the Ghostrunner must parry, but the indicator of her attacks (her blade glowing) is lenient and obvious enough once first spotted, and failing to parry isn't even a guarenteed death, as the player can move away. Her second attack, used between phases, is to retreat to a different platform and throw {{Sword Beam}}s until the player closes the distance: this one is kind of pathetic for being about as complex as the basic {{Mook}}'s pistol shots, but without the presence of other enemies that actually makes him dangerous. Overall, for a character that is built up as a powerful MirrorBoss, HEL [[AntiClimaxBoss ends up disappointing in execution]], and feels more like a glorified combination of the ninja enemy and the later-introduced and [[DegradedBoss curiously similar]] teleporting enemy than counterpart to the Ghostrunner.

* PlayTheGameSkipTheStory: While the game is an efficient and challenging action platformer with [[AwesomeBosses/VideoGames Awesome Bosses]], beautiful visuals and dynamic music, the story is a [[ClicheStorm cliché]] "LaResistance fighting against a dystopian {{cyberpunk}} dictatorship" plot with {{Narm}}y voice acting. The only memorable characters are your protagonist who progressively gains humanity and the Architect [[spoiler:who reveals more common points with the Keymaster than he wants to admit]].
