* SugarWiki/AwesomeMoments:
** Warden breaking up the fight between Maggio and Judson, without having to throw a single punch. Even when Judson has a knife, Warden smashes a bottle and calmly holds it, daring him to make a move. He also rightfully shuts down Maggio's hot temper, making it clear any more fights won't be tolerated. It establishes him as a BadassPacifist and AFatherToHisMen - showing he would be a much better leader than Holmes.
** Karen's ReasonYouSuckSpeech to her husband after she's told him she wants a divorce (not a statement said lightly in the 1940s either). She chews him out for having the nerve to worry about a potential scandal that might affect his reputation, when for their entire marriage he's been having affairs of his own.
** Karen gets another in an earlier scene with Holmes; when he tiptoes around, claiming to be on business conferences, she snarks that she doesn't care what he does but...
--> "I just want you to know that I am ''not'' as stupid as you believe all women are."
** Karen likewise gets to refute Warden's attempts at shaming her for the affairs she's had. She retorts that she a) has a husband who's been shamelessly cheating on her for years, b) lost a baby entirely because of said husband's neglect, c) can't have any more children as a result, and d) has been trying to get over that trauma by seeking comfort in other people. Warden is rightly ashamed of his earlier statements.
** Prewitt finally having [[TheDogBitesBack enough of Galovitch's abuse]], getting into an intense bareknuckle fight there and then on the lawn. While he takes his lumps at the start, he fights back and makes it very obvious that all his bullies [[BullyingADragon are lucky he's been holding back]].

* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments:
** One woman has the task of showing Prewitt around the New Congress Club and introduce him to various girls. He rather obviously stares at Lorene, and the woman has this fantastic snarky response.
--> "As much as I adore your company, I hope I may be permitted to tear myself away. I've just spotted some friends at the door, and I can see I'll be of no further use to you."
** Maggio drunkenly bursting in on Prewitt and Alma's date, having deserted guard duty.
--> '''Prewitt:''' What are you doing in uniform?
--> '''Maggio:''' I'm thinking of joining the army.
** Even earlier, Maggio had likewise interrupted their 'moment' upstairs in the club similarly drunk. Spotting a glass to pour bourbon into, he empties the contents out the window and then giggles "there's a cop down there".
** Karen sassing her husband on who her new boyfriend is.
--> "I wonder what's hurt more. Your pride or your curiosity."
** Prewitt and Warden, both very drunk, become aware that they're sitting in the middle of a road...and start arguing about which one of them is more expendable and therefore should stay while the other moves. This segues into a heart-to-heart, which is then predictably interrupted by an angry truck driver.

* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments:
** Maggio's genuine friendship to Prewitt after he's been mistreated. He convinces him to come into town and enjoy his night, being the friend he needs. It even extended off camera, where Montgomery Clift and Frank Sinatra becoming close friends; the former giving him coaching on how to play the softer scenes.
** Warden takes pity on Prewitt almost immediately after seeing him keep taking the punishments Holmes is dishing out without complaint, and the unfair treatment from the Non Coms. He says he'll sneakily get him weekend passes, knowing that Captain Holmes will sign anything he puts in front of him without looking it, freeing Prewitt up to see his girl again.
** Prewitt and Lorene's LoveAtFirstSight. They see each other from across the room, and the latter gives him a sincere smile. Sure it's part of her job, but there's something genuine there, and she says she liked him as soon as she saw him.
** Prewitt tells Warden that, despite his fears about turning into Holmes, he thinks Warden would make a fine officer.
** Warden's DueToTheDead when he [[spoiler: finds Prewitt's body. He describes him as a friend first and foremost, and an excellent soldier]].

* TearJerker:
** Karen's confession of how horrible her marriage has been. Two years after they were married, she discovered he'd been having drunken affairs on the regular. She held out hope that when she got pregnant, she'd at least love her child and that would make the marriage tolerable. Then one night, she went into labor and her husband was too drunk after a hook-up to help her. The baby was still born and the experience left her barren. It comes right after Warden tries to judge her for having slept with other men, and he's horrified at what he was previously accusing her of.
** Prewitt's reason for not going back to boxing. He blinded a friend during training, and recalls one incident in the hospital where the man started crying. The guilt left him so shaken he couldn't even see him again. What makes it sadder is that Montgomery Clift delivers the story so softly, yet fully conveying just how guilty he still feels.
--> "Seeing tears coming out of those eyes that couldn't see..."
** [[spoiler:Maggio's death in Prewitt's arms, and Prewitt's tearful rendition of Taps on bugle afterwards.]]
** [[spoiler:[[IdiotBall Anticlimactic as it seemed,]] Prewitt's death, and Alma's tearful but composed scene with Karen afterwards as the latter throws her leas into the ocean, telling Alma that if they float towards shore, it means that they'll return to Hawaii later. Alma tells her that she's never going to come back.]]

* ValuesResonance: On the other hand, Warden's initial disdain of Karen's sexual history is there to set up him having a HeelRealization. The narrative goes out of its way to show that Karen has very sympathetic reasons for cheating on her husband, and her having multiple partners is never questioned again. And even then, Warden's doubts about the affair are implied to be because of the high stakes involved with sleeping with his superior's wife and he'd prefer not to be used for sex. Karen also gets a moment where she calls out her husband for the DoubleStandard of him being annoyed that she wants a divorce to marry a new man she's fallen in love with, while she was supposed to just put up with him having affairs for years.
