* SugarWiki/CrowningMomentOfAwesome: A meta example in that the game was finally slated to receive an UpdatedRerelease overseas after 15 years, much to the unanimous joy of fans.

I have no idea where they got that idea, but it isn't. 2 is still considered the best game in the series, and the only change that the localization brought is that with better controls the game is better than before. Critic and fan reviews are positive, but generally around the 7.5-8/10 range. Again, no idea where they got that impression from.

* EvenBetterSequel: With the release of the game overseas, many fans tend to agree that Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is easily the best game in the franchise, with a solid story and gameplay alongside introducing unique gameplay in the form of Choushiro, as well as being one of the most, if not the most terrifying game in the series.

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation:
** Misaki: Did she abandon Madoka on purpose because she was lagging behind or did she just not notice until it was too late? Or, in the event that it's the former is she just shortsighted , instead of simply being a JerkAss?
** Invoked on Sakuya seeing Ayako as very different from how she's portrayed. Though it's implied that Ayako is Sakuya's daughter, so she might be biased.
---> "That child goes around with an air of evil and fear around her, but I know she is really very gentle and vulnerable."

* ObviousBeta: The original Wii version contained the aforementioned GameBreakingBug that was never fixed, and it also had a broken Ghost List that is impossible to complete, without hacking the save-file.

* PolishedPort: The remaster is widely praised by fans for its greatly improved graphics and finally bringing a much-wanted game to be released in the west. While it still has its shortcomings such as some of the textures being taken directly from the original and not being upscaled very well, and slight frame drops, it's generally agreed that the overall port is excellent.

* ScrappyMechanic: The piano segments. They require the player to point at the narrow keyboard keys with the [=WiiMote=] pointer, and the game often ends up hitting the one next to the intended key. And the game is also pretty finicky about timing. The worst part is that it appears as a mechanic for the final boss battle. After reducing Sakuya's health, she's temporarily stunned and the player must play the Tsukimori Song on the piano to complete the battle. Failing to input the notes correctly, the player needs to fight Sakuya again. Made easier in the Remaster, as the piano keys are mapped to buttons on the console/keyboard.
* ThatOneBoss: The battle against the Utsuwa (Vessel), and the one against the Kanades (accompanists). The Kanades are GoddamnedBats that work as a team, with one or more serving as a decoy, while another goes in for the kill from behind or below the player. And there's five of them. The Utsuwa herself is a complete wild card, teleporting and attacking more or less at random. Players that haven't mastered the evade function yet will have to redo this battle a lot.
* TooCoolToLive: Choushiro Kirishima. He was a police officer that turned private detective upon leaving the force, and he was the one that found the kidnapped girls on Rogetsu Island, single-handedly saving them. And he has been spending his whole time since chasing down You Haibara, to bring him to justice. Badass is the only way to describe this guy. Choushiro turns out to have died eight years ago, and he's one of the spirits roaming the island, repeating his actions until the curse is broken.

* ThatOneBoss: The battle against the Utsuwa (Vessel), Vessel and the one Organs in the Kagerou stage. It pits you against six ghosts at once, which is already bad enough. But the Kanades (accompanists). The Kanades Organs like to confuse players by approaching them like they are GoddamnedBats that work as a team, with about to attack, only to back up and then let one or more serving as a decoy, while another goes in for of the kill from behind or below others attack the player. And there's five of player because they didn't focus on them. Especially since the Organs also like to pop out from the ground right at the player's feet and attack there. The Utsuwa herself Vessel is mostly there to appear threatening, but has a complete wild card, teleporting tendency to suddenly attack the player and attacking more or less at random. Players that haven't distract them. If the player hasn't mastered the evade Evade function yet will have to redo this battle a lot.
yet, good luck.

Now Trivia that needs proof that it was intentional via Word of God/Saint Paul.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: Many Western players might see the actual purpose of the Kiraigou as an acknowledgement of their resentment of the previous games' attitude of human sacrifices being the right choice to make. The Kiraigou was a ritual where nobody was meant to die. It was a dance that was meant to simply allow the spirits of the deceased to move onto the next world through the mask worn by the vessel.

* TheWoobie: A lot of the characters count as this, but among the ghosts, Fuyuko Shiratsuki is a very sad example. She was the one who had to deal with Ayako, and suffered a lot of her abuse, including getting dragged across the hallway by her hair, and being cut over and over again with scissors. And after that, she suffers from Blooming caused by Sakuya and dies horribly. As creepy as her ghost looks, she also looks incredibly depressed. It makes you wanna give her a hug if she wasn't trying to kill you...

* GoodBadBugs: While a glitch caused six ghosts to not actually count when photographed, leaving the Ghost List incomplete and the Festival lens unobtainable, these spirits could be photographed multiple times for their full point value. This gives the player a rather easy way of getting a ton of Spirit Points to upgrade the camera and lenses with.
