* EvilIsSexy: Turles is not without a large number of female fans.

*** His ability to punch way above his weight. When he initially fights with Goku he was being overpowered by him and his 30,000 power level... And yet, shortly before, he nearly killed Gohan in Great Ape form, with a power level of ''100,000''.
*** After being defeated by Turles who had just eaten the Fruit of the Tree of Power, Goku fired a Spirit Bomb at him... And Turles ''destroyed it''. Nobody would ever do that again until [[Anime/DragonBallSuper the Tournament of Power]], and even then it took ''[[WorldsStrongestMan Jiren]] and Goku pushing it at each other until it collapsed''.
*** The latter one backfires horribly on him, however: after being knocked down, Goku realizes that Turles could pull that trick because most of Earth's energy had already been absorbed by the Tree of Might, hence the Spirit Bomb being weaker than it should have been, and Turles having increased his power by eating one of the Tree's fruits... So he decided to steal the idea and made his next Spirit Bomb from ''all the energy inside the Tree of Might'', pretty much what would end up taking down ''[[NoKillLikeOverkill Kid Buu]]''. Neither Turles nor the Tree of Might survived this one, and Earth got restored.
** While a darker example, Goku has one in taking down the Crusher Corps. He's [[TranquilFury flat-out pissed]] at what Turles and his goons have done to his friends, and it shows. Rarely for the series, Goku basically uses no ki attacks in taking down the Crusher Corps; he just straight-up beats them to death.

** The titular Tree of Might.
** Turles. Had he succeeded, Earth would have been returned to a lifeless rock.
** The way he [[spoiler:grabs Gohan by '''HIS EYES''' to force him to go Oozaru]]

* TheScrappy: Not a lot of people seem to like Icarus, the token RidiculouslyCuteCritter of the series introduced in this film. Creator/TeamFourStar even made a RunningGag out of it being killed and eaten. While [=KaiserNeko=]does admit he's cute, Lanipator admits Icarus drags the entire movie down just for existing, hence his DeathByAdaptation in subsequent movies where he actually appears.

* TheScrappy: Not a lot of people seem to like Icarus, the token RidiculouslyCuteCritter of the series introduced in this film. Creator/TeamFourStar even made a RunningGag out of it being killed and eaten.

*** It's very hard to ignore how badly dubbed the characters are (Tien sounding like [[WesternAnimation/BeavisAndButthead Beavis]] with a sinus infection, for example). Especially when Goku's friends try to motivate him, one of the voices sounds like a bad imitation of Yoda from ''Franchise/StarWars''.
*** There are some ''very'' odd line deliveries. One of the most infamous examples is Turles suddenly switching from MotorMouth to talking in a very slow and stilted way. The abrupt shift is widely mocked.

* MagnificentBastard: [[SpacePirates Turles]] is a Saiyan survivor who leads the Turles Crusher Corps. and intends to plant the Tree of Might, [[EnergyAbsorption which absorbs the planet's energy]] then grows [[PowerUpFood special fruit]], which Turles hopes can make him strong enough to challenge Frieza for control of the universe. After planting the Tree on Earth and met with resistance from the Z Fighters, Turles [[WeCanRuleTogether offers to let Gohan join him]] and upon the boy's refusal he generates an Artificial Moon to turn Gohan into a Great Ape and pits him against Goku, before destroying the moon so Turles himself won't transform and lose control. While evenly matched against Goku, Turles manages to eat one of the Tree's fruit and dominates the fight. A cunning CombatPragmatist and surprisingly BenevolentBoss who revived two of his men, Turles is one of the most memorable movie villains.

* FridgeBrilliance: Goku's first Spirit Bomb fails against Turles. Why? Because the technique absorbs the energy of the Earth to create itself... and said energy had already beensucked almost entirely by Turles via the Tree of Might, so the Spirit Bomb's strength was way lesser than that of the evil Saiyan.

* JustHereForGodzilla: Many fans watch this movie simply for [[EvilIsCool Turles.]] Creator/TeamFourStar in their ranking of all of the (by then released) Dragon Ball movies, even state that He's the reason why anyone even remembers the film.

* OlderThanTheyThink: Fans of ''Anime/DragonballSuper'' who think Goku Black is the best idea for a villain ever are often very surprised when they learn ItsBeenDone decades earlier than they thought with Turles.

* ValuesDissonance: In the Ocean/Saban TV English dub, Oolong says Gohan's large backpack makes him look like a "midget pack mule". While the word midget was seen as okay back then, today it's seen as a derogatory word for people with dwarfism. Ironically the Ocean/Saban TV, in general, is also infamous for random bits of censorship yet that line did not come from the original version, it was added by them

And yet, when one considers Turles's [[TheStoic coldly controlled]] personality, it makes ''perfect sense'' that he would never reach the Super Saiyan form, which, after all, is unlocked by overwhelming surges of ''emotion''.
