* MemeticMutation: The climax went viral after the episode aired due to the fact that the episode ends with a frog, which is either amazing or terrible depending on who you talk to due to the...interesting puppet, being the physical form of a sentient universe and talking to the Doctor who is in love with it. The frog then proceeds to [[Franchise/StarWars forcepush]] her out of its plane. Needless to say, reactions were very varied.
* NarmCharm: The frog puppet is exactly the level of classic ''Doctor Who'' whimsy, bizarreness and camp that in spite of the SpecialEffectsFailure (or maybe because of it), many fans adore it.

The frog puppet falls ''well'' short of looking even mildly convincing.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: Much of the buildup for the episode suggested it would be a horror-esque monster-in-the-woods plot, only to be tossed out the window as a ScoobyDooHoax in favor of [[MakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext Ribbons and frogs]].

* FridgeLogic: Why didn't Erik just take Hanne with him when he went through the portal to be with Trine?
** Obviously because of the deadly flesh-eating moths.

Misuse these aren't interesting plot points that the worked introduced but they failed to explore like this trope needs to be.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot:
** Instead of a frog, the Solitract could have taken on the form of River Song or a former companion for the Doctor's sake, as the AV Club's review pointed out, given how it manifested as lost loved ones of Erik and Graham. It's possible this ''was'' considered but turned down because, beyond Creator/ChrisChibnall not wanting to work with old characters in Series 11, this was set to air less than a year after "[[Recap/DoctorWho2017CSTwiceUponATime Twice Upon a Time]]" put the Twelfth Doctor through a similar situation with the Testimony's Glass People, the main difference being that they were for all intents and purposes the actual Bill, Clara, and Nardole. Alternatively, [[https://io9.gizmodo.com/that-might-have-been-the-most-beautifully-surreal-episo-1830807569 as James Whitbrook pointed out at io9]], the Doctor at this point in her lives has learned a lot about letting go of loved ones so they wouldn't have worked as a lure.
** Much of the buildup for the episode suggested it would be a horror-esque monster-in-the-woods plot, only to be tossed out the window as a ScoobyDooHoax in favor of [[MakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext Ribbons and frogs]].
** Instead of leaving the lonely and curious Solitract with nothing but a promise that the two of them are now friends, the Doctor could have used her touch-telepathy (seen in various previous episodes) to let the Solitract see her memories of the outside universe before departing.
