* HilariousInHindsight: At the start of this story, Donna joked that if Martha was calling the Doctor "Dad" she's definitely getting over him. The last line in this episode, in the next time preview, is to [[Creator/DavidTennant the Doctor]]:
-->''[[Creator/GeorgiaMoffett Jenny]]'': Hi, Dad.

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: While the Doctor was rather dismissive of UNIT last episode, this one has him grab the JerkassBall hard by outright refusing to work with them while simultaneously putting Mace down a peg in an almost bullish way, and withholding information about gun-blocking signal that results in several avoidable death, for whivh he holds Mace accountable for not ordering a retreat. It says something that, when Mace resorts to just ignoring the Doctor and going ahead with an attack that does weaken the Sontarans' stronghold enough to reclaim it, the Doctor remains respectfully silent.

* LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt: At the climax, it turns out the only way to defeat the Sontarans is for one person to teleport themselves to the Sontaran ship and blow it up at the cost of a HeroicSacrifice. There are only four people nearby who could do it: the Doctor, his current companion, his former companion, and the guest star [[LesCollaborateurs who sold out all humanity to the Sontarans]] but [[HeelFaceTurn is now seeking to redeem himself.]] (The Doctor thinks it'll be himself.)

* InferredHolocaust: The end of last episode had the Sontarans activating '''400 million cars''' to spew out the suffocating ATMOS gas. This episode establishes that every country in Europe has thousands of people walking across country to escape while, in Dunkirk fashion, boats take refugees out into the Atlantic from America's eastern seaboard as the first deaths are reported in Tokyo. Remembering that number, '''400 million cars''', one has to wonder how many people were caught in the same predicament as Wilf, locked inside their car and suffocating, only not lucky enough to be broken out.
