There's just something oddly alluring about a [[AxCrazy not-quite-there]], [[AbusivelySexyWoman sadistic]] LadyInRed FemmeFatale [[BloodLust with a thing for blood]] and [[ImpossiblyCoolWeapon a snazzy weapon]]. Having a nice figure ([[BareYourMidriff and the]] [[UnderwearOfPower clothes]] [[{{Stripperiffic}} by which to flaunt it]]) as well as the voice of AtsukoTanaka and MaryElizabethMcGlynn (the latter giving Rosso a [[FakeRussian Russian accent]], which may or may not add to the sexy factor) and FoeYay with TheHero never hurts either.

** To elaborate, even though he appears to be just as evil as he was in the original game, he is robbed of most of his actual character traits and becomes far more stereotypical, making it difficult for players to take him seriously as the CompleteMonster he truly is. It should be noted, however, that it is heavily implied that the reason for his... more-stereotypical behavior was because he lost his sanity after his botched attempt at injecting himself with Jenova's cells.

* CompleteMonster: Weiss, and while [[spoiler:it's actually Hojo who orders all the horrors Deepground commits, once Weiss becomes free from him, he too wants to destroy the world]].

** To elaborate, even though he appears to be just as evil as he was in the original game, he is robbed of most of his actual character traits and becomes far more stereotypical, making it difficult for players to take him seriously as the CompleteMonster he truly is.

** This is [[YourMileageMayVary probably]] a case of plot-induced {{Flanderization}}[=/=]CharacterDerailment, not unlike Cloud in ''[[FinalFantasyVIIAdventChildren Advent Children]]''. Vincent was set up as a {{foil}} to Cloud (who was something of a wangsty git in ''AC''--due to {{pandering|ToTheBase}} to common portrayals of Cloud in {{doujinshi}}--to NeverLiveItDown levels; not even ''Complete'' justifying Cloud's angst and Cloud--regardless of the version of the move--'''getting over it''' by the end could shake off his {{emo}} label among the fandom) in terms of [[TheAtoner penance and seeking atonement]]; when Cloud asks if sins can be forgiven, Vincent simply replies, "I've never tried," spurring Cloud to give it a shot and later "phone in the verdict" to Vincent; seeing as Cloud found his answer and ''finally'' came to terms with everything (actually showing signs of his old personality in this very game, no less), there was no reason to suggest that Vincent couldn't do the same. However, seeing as Vincent is the focus here, all the "sins" he's been burdening for the past few decades suddenly come ''surging'' to the surface with no prior warning in order to shape the conflict of (and Vincent's personal stake in) ''Dirge''. ''How'' (w)angsty Vincent is depends on viewer interpretation.

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Depending on your point of view Lucrecia can come across as either a remorseful victim of Hojo's insanity looking to make amends for harming the only man who ever really loved her, or as a callous heartbreaker who strung Vincent along for years, [[spoiler:accidentally killed his father]], dumped him for Hojo, then experimented on her own son ''in utero'' then sealed herself inside a crystal because she just couldn't live with herself any more. And Vincent ''still'' loves her.
* CompleteMonster: Weiss, and while [[spoiler:it's actually Hojo who orders all the horrors Deepground commits, but once Weiss becomes free from him, he too wants to destroy the world]].

This is possibly a result of good acting because [[spoiler:after uploading yourself into another person's body in order to become one with a god that you're pretty sure exists]] you've definitely gone batshit at that point, causing some truly WTF things to come out of your mouth.

* LoveItOrHateIt: It's the OddballInTheSeries for a ''very'' good reason.

* FetishFuel: Nero the Sable is an EvilBrit who wears a [[BoundAndGagged straightjacket]] and is completely obsessed with his older brother, a WhiteHairedPrettyBoy who goes around [[WalkingShirtlessScene sans shirt at all times]] and is [[ILoveTheDead effectively dead]] at the beginning of the story. Wow.
** Shelke is {{Lolicon}} if [[YourMileageMayVary you're into that sort of thing]]
** Lucrecia's labcoat.

* CharacterDerailment: A few fans were... disappointed with how ''Dirge of Cerberus'' handled Hojo. He's a [[MadScientist sick]], [[CompleteMonster ''sick'']] man, but he was never as openly crazy in the original game as he was here. He ''did'' go completely nuts in his last hours so maybe [[spoiler:still behaving this way inside of Weiss]] would make sense...only flashbacks to Vincent and Lucretia's past shows him as being a cackling madman ''even back then!''

* CharacterAlignment: Rosso: ChaoticEvil
