*** One notable difference between the English subtitles and the actual German audio, is the profanity. One of the most clear examples is when they talk about passing the Strait of Gibraltar. In English they say that passing Gibraltar, is going through the eye of a needle... In German, they talk about a virgin without vaseline.

In English they say that passing Gibraltar, is going through the eye of a needle... In German, they talk about a virgin without vaseline. Vaseline.
*** Another illuminating example is Werner's mini-speech at the bottom of the Strait of Gibraltar; while the original German (and the subtitles) is a pretty poignant confessional of how hollow self-imposed "DareToBeBadass" is in almost 300 meters of water in a crippled U-boat (see the [[Tearjerker/DasBoot Tear Jerker]] page), the English dub comes across as less profound and a touch immature:
--->'''Werner:''' They made us all train for this day. "To be fearless and proud and alone. To need no one, just sacrifice. All for the Fatherland." Oh God, all just empty words. It's not the way they said it was, is it? I just want someone to be with. The only thing I feel is afraid.

They're not depicted as "evil" or anything, it has to in order for that trope to be used, they do their job at war. And plenty of other media does that (Stalingrad '93, Generation War etc).

* CryForTheDevil: The ending is so heartbreaking that it actually does what no other war film manages to do: make the audience side with the Germans in UsefulNotes/WorldWarII.
