A lot of this is wrong: from my understanding Lucas wasn't entirely a fan of Dark Empire either, (he famously dismissed the idea of the emperor returning) and the only element from Zahn used in the prequels was the "Coruscant" name, which had to be talked into using.

** Zahn and his fans loathed this series because it brought the Emperor back from the dead. Since then the fandom of the Expanded Universe has been split in two: Zahn Fans and Veitch Fans. The fact that most other writers have sided with Zahn, while Lucas had somewhat done the same with Veitch, hasn't precisely helped to settle things. [[note]]For context, Lucas claimed at the time that ''Dark Empire'' was akin to his original plan, and it was later revealed that if the story's conclusion had not been condensed into ''Return of the Jedi'', the Emperor would not have been dealt with in Episode 6 and the next three episodes would have had Luke find and train his sister (who was ''not'' Leia) and end with them facing the Emperor together. George Lucas himself did enjoy Zahn's work perfectly well, using many of its ideas and plot for the Prequel trilogy, so it was less him playing favorites between the two camps and more taking from both.[[/note]]
