** Makina shows romantic feelings for Keisei, and Ouri later on seems to develop feelings for Makina. Since Makina's family adopted Keisei, and Keisei in turn adopted Ouri, that technically makes this a [[TriangRelations type 5]] LoveTriangle composed entirely of [[BrotherSisterIncest quasi-incestuous]] attractions.

* BlackHoleSue: The anime at least, puts far too much emphasis on the main duo and their way being right.

* AdaptationDisplacement: Most of the tropes on this page apply primarily or exclusively to the anime version.
* BlackHoleSue: The anime at least, puts far too much emphasis on the main duo and their way being right.
* CrowningMusicOfAwesome: The OP and all of the ED songs are phenomenal.
* DesignatedProtagonistSyndrome: Oori.
* [[spoiler:DyingMomentOfAwesome: Keisei in episode 12.]]
* GrowingTheBeard: ''Kuro'' ditched the MonsterOfTheWeek format used in ''Aka'' to focus on characterization and an ongoing battle against the Seven Stars.
* HilariousInHindsight: Ouri shares quite a few traits with [[FullmetalAlchemist Alphonse Elric]] at first. [[Creator/AaronDismuke Now who's his dub VA again?]]
* {{Narm}}: Especially when it comes to Ouri's and Makina's seiyuu.
** It's very hard to take Ouri seriously when he gets upset. BWAAAAA!
** It is hard to take Rika seriously during dramatic moments like season two's finale.
* NightmareFuel and {{Squick}}: This is a series about zombies, so it's full of these. But some stand out more than the others. It's Hokuto that screams Nightmare Fuel though. Seriously, she's able to turn her head around ala Exorcist and can make people explode
** Toya the MonsterClown. Toya's head is a cluster of Balloons with a number of creepy eyes and a [[{{SlasherSmile}} smile]] on it drawn by a marker. It creates illusions of something along the lines of an AmusementParkOfDoom or a CircusOfFear. Toya also has a creepy voice, and did I mention that [[spoiler:she's really a [[{{CreepyChild}} little girl]] underneath that big coat]]? While maybe Toya is a little less scary than Hokuto, Toya's illusions certainly resemble a terrible nightmare of a child much better.
* {{Squick}}: The {{jerkass}} monk kissing his Shikabane Hime, Minai, when he thinks of her as a walking corpse and nothing more. Um...
** Makina shows romantic feelings for Keisei, and Ouri later on seems to develop feelings for Makina. Since Makina's family adopted Keisei, and Keisei in turn adopted Ouri, that technically makes this a [[TriangRelations type 5]] LoveTriangle composed entirely of [[BrotherSisterIncest incestuous]] attractions.
** In the manga, one of the Seven Stars tries to rape Makina. This is ''after'' she's been turned into a Shikabane Hime. Nothing like the prospect of undead-on-undead rape to make your stomach turn...
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: See BlackHoleSue above, the duo is about to train and become members of the main core and participate in the battles with the rest of the Kougan Sect. Instead, it focuses far more on how much their self-motivated actions manage to drag everyone down.
