Removed Vindicated By History because it still has mixed reception and it being "one of the best games overall" is a controversial opinion (thread)

* VindicatedByHistory: The game got mostly mixed reviews when it came out; but now it is widely considered the best of the 3D ''Castlevania'' games, if not one of the best games overall. The game's heavy influence on the acclaimed [[WesternAnimation/Castlevania2017 animated series]], especially from the second season onward, has also led to renewed appreciation for the game.

Evil Is Sexy has been dewicked.

* EvilIsSexy: Isaac again. Michiru Yamane indicates in the game's sound test mode that Isaac was the most popular character among the women in the game's staff, and has a large female following in the fandom.

* BaseBreakingCharacter: Fan reception to Isaac has been rather split since the game's release largely due to his appearance and undeniable sexual overtones, and more so with him being replaced in [[WesternAnimation/Castlevania2017 the Netflix series]] by a completely different character with the same name. There are those who enjoyed his appearance in ''Curse of Darkness'' as a RedOniBlueOni {{Foil}} to Hector, felt his unusual design fit the gothic themes of the series, and enjoyed Creator/LiamOBrien's performance as him. Certain fans also [[DracoInLeatherPants adored him for his sexiness]], and neither were happy that he was replaced in the Netflix series. However, Isaac's design and what's perceived to be [[HoYay homoerotic subtext with Hector and Trevor]] was a [[FanDisservice major]] [[FetishRetardant sore spot]] for others, while some believe that making [[DepravedHomosexual such a character a villain]] painted some UnfortunateImplications about certain stereotypes and felt he didn't really have that much depth, especially when compared to his animated series replacement.

* CriticalResearchFailure: The End's description states that it can fire beams from its five eyes, although no such ability can be used in-game, not even in cutscenes!

Names The Same is no longer a trope

* HilariousInHindsight: In the English dub, Hector was voiced by Creator/CrispinFreeman, known best as the voice of the vampire Alucard ([[NamesTheSame no, not that one]]) in the animated ''Manga/{{Hellsing}}'' series, while his bitter rival Isaac was voiced by Creator/LiamOBrien. Several years later, ''Hellsing Ultimate IX'' would see Alucard, [[spoiler: revealed to be Count Dracula himself,]] facing off against [[spoiler: young Walter]], both voiced by Freeman and O'Brien respectively. Some fans of the game certainly got a kick out of this.

Needs Word of God as support since AST is now a Trivia trope.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: One of the major complaints about ''[[VideoGame/CastlevaniaLamentOfInnocence Lament of Innocence]]'' was that, as an OriginStory for the whole series and the first canon 3D entry under IGA's supervision, Dracula wasn't fought against at all and Death served as the final opponent of that game instead. Here, Dracula returns to reclaim his throne as the game's final boss.

Stealing.

Added DiffLines:

* ScrappyMechanic: Stealing can take a hard left turn into this in some situations, in particular against targets where you need to wait for them to do something specific before you can take your shot instead of being able to open them up yourself, with most bosses falling into this category and often combining it with an extremely narrow window and clumsy collision. Also, some bosses will change their routine after taking a certain amount of damage and stop doing the move that makes them vulnerable, so you can't even wear them down while you wait so that you can finish up quickly after you get what you're after. A special call-out goes to the enemy Gi-Lee, a variant of the Thief enemy who will try to steal equipment instead of consumables, which can be a major problem. What do you need to do to see its Steal window? Let it take something and try to escape. What do you get for stealing from it? 1 Gold. Same as the Thief. If you want to complete your Bestiary, you better save first just in case it gets away with something you can't replace.

Moving to a sub-page

* NightmareFuel:
** The dungeons of the Garibaldi Temple, [[spoiler:especially outside Legion's room. And Legion itself.]]
** The Ectoplasm enemies are faces molded into a purple, spherical blob. As they get near you, attack you, or if you kill any of them, you can hear sounds of wailing women. But ''fortunately'', the background music drowns these and can only be heard clearly if you are in close proximity to one.
** Sitting in the Park Swing when it's unlocked in the Chair Room. The sky suddenly turns orange, the background music becomes muted and gets replaced with the sound of wind and crows, and the description doesn't describe what Hector's sitting in, but instead describes the thoughts of a lonely child whose friends have gone home and awaits his mother to return. It can be surprisingly eerie and a hell of a MoodWhiplash compared to the zaniness of the other chairs in the room.
** Heck, the Chair Room itself might as well count. The music and how out of place everything is, along with the bats flying around that can be shot down for no real purpose, can give off a really uncomfortable vibe the longer you stay in it.
