** Lillian can come off this way for her attitude towards Annie. Not to mention, it's at least a controversial action, if not a full-on faux-pas, to ask someone to be a bridesmaid or maid of honor without discussing the financial commitments of it first.

** Annie. Like most cases of this, she suffers enough to elicit sympathy, but her suffering is self-inflicted by her own {{jerkass}} behavior. Plenty of her misfortunes could be avoided, or at least downplayed, if she took more responsibility for her actions and didn't have quite as much of a victim complex. This makes it that much more heartwarming in the film when she finally owns up to her actions.

"It was just baking." It doesn't matter. The problem is Annie had repeatedly and consistently made it clear that the bakery was a sore spot that she wasn't ready to talk about or deal with, Rhodes kept pushing anyway, then acted like SHE was in the wrong for finally snapping and cutting off communication. He kept pushing a topic that he knew she wasn't comfortable with, then acted like her cutting off communication accordingly came out of nowhere. It borders on Never My Fault.

** Though it was wrong of Annie to cut off Rhodes the way she did, the way he constantly pushes the bakery issue and even buys a bunch of baking-related equipment even though it's clearly a sore spot for her makes him look really insensitive. Sure, he meant well, but he won't let the subject drop even when Annie clearly says she doesn't want to talk about it. While their relationship up until this point has been fairly adorable, in reality they've had only a few conversations and had sex once — he's not exactly in a position to dig up her skeletons and give her life advice. On the flip side, while he's not exactly going about it the best way and could perhaps dial it back a bit, ultimately it's just baking, and he's only trying to help her rediscover her confidence and passions and demonstrate that he's willing to share and encourage her interests. Annie's response, while not entirely unjustified, is still disproportionate and indicative of her own inability to see past her own self-loathing.

** This can be read as (partly) intentional, however, since we're not exactly supposed to support Helen's actions throughout the movie either; the revelation simply suggests that the situation is more complicated than Helen simply being a typical one-dimensional AlphaBitch trying to upstage Annie out of pure spite, that Annie isn't the only one who has her own problems and issues to address, and that neither of them have been going about trying to solve those problems in the best or right way.
