* ParanoiaFule: With the Space Mafia aliens being able to assume the identities of anyone by going in their bodies, it mades it hard for the trio to figure out who's a friendly and who's not.

* EvilIsSexy: [[BigBad Queen]] definitely puts the "cute" in CuteAndPsycho. At least as long as the [[TwoFaced right side of her face]] is covered.

* WhatDoYouMeanItsForKids: While not without comedic moments, Blue SWAT is much more grounded and darker than your typical {{Toku}}, and it can be easy to forget you're watching a children's {{Toku}} series at times. Apparently, not even some kids realized it was intended for them, which led to it getting a LighterAndSofter {{retool}} midway through.

* WTHCostumeDepartment: While Jisp's original alien form is very sleek and creepy looking, his "upgraded" form gives him a perpetual big, toothy mouth, wide round eyes that make him look perpetually surprised, and a bunch of syringes stuck in his head. The result is him being too ridiculous to take seriously.

Jisp eventually attempts to [[TheStarscream overthrow Queen]] and use a pheromone to make the rest of the Space Mafia submit to him, his only desire being for a planet to rule himself.

* SeasonalRot: ''Blue SWAT'' gets off to a strong start with the gritty premise established in the first episode, but after a while the episode plots get increasingly goofier and more nonsensical, props get recycled over and over and [[{{AssPull}} plot developments get pulled out of nowhere]]. It definitely stands as the ''Metal Hero'' series with the most inconsistent quality.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Yanimi is a threatening DarkActionGirl played by a professional wrestler, but she gets much less focus compared to Jisp's other two minions and spends most of the second quarter OutOfFocus, before coming back for a two-parter halfway through and [[spoiler:getting killed off.]]
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: One of the ways the Space Mafia are made out to be threatening early on is how it's implicitly stated they've infiltrated high levels of society, which is the reason why Blue SWAT have to operate in secret. Despite all the plot opportunites this premise creates, [[AbortedArc it's dropped midway in]] and never brought up again post-retool after the Space Mafia are made to be a generic NebulousEvilOrganisation.

* PeripheryDemographic: Much like ''Series/ChoujinkiMetalder'' before it, Blue SWAT did quite well with older fans.

* IAmNotShazam: Show is not “Blue SWAT”. Blue SWAT is the name of the organization he, Sarah and Sig work for.

* VindicatedByHistory: While it wasn't a flop, a lot of children were turned off by Blue SWAT's grittier aesthetic and more realistic take on an AlienInvasion, leading to it declining ratings wise. It would later become much more popular for these same reasons.

* IAmNotShazam: Show is not "Blue SWAT". Blue SWAT is the name of the organization he, Sarah and Sig work for.
