* UnintentionallySympathetic: 14 year old Seth ''obviously'' doesn't deserve the abuse he receives from the guards and inmates, especially since he says he's already being bullied on a daily basis as school. Most of the abuse he recieves is because he doesn't act scared, making the guards in this especially unsympathetic for basically acting like typical bullies, and implying that intimidation and abuse are the only methods they are capable of or willing to try when trying to reach kids, and don't make any effort to understand why they act out in the first place.

YMMV can't be played with. Such are just not examples.

* CatharsisFactor: Zig-Zagged: on the one hand, many of the teens are bullies, domestic abusers, or otherwise loathsome pricks, so it often feels good to see them being tormented by hardened inmates and prison guards with severe anger issues; on the other hand, the misdeeds of others aren't always deserving of jail time especially in the age of zero tolerance policies in schools.

* UnintentionallySympathetic: Zig-Zagged: it's not hard to end up feeling sorry for half of the kids as most of them haven't even done things that were that bad, especially when the snippets of their parents or home life clearly prove where the kid got their bad attitude and habits from in the first place; however, a lot of the kids also tend to be bullies, thugs and domestic abusers who deserve everything coming to them so in most cases, it's hard to feel sorry for them at large.

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Also Zig-Zagged: the cops and inmates are usually very hard to see as heroic as even though they have good intentions, their methods such as screaming, intimidation, and humiliation make them seem no better, if even worse than the kids they're trying to help; though this doesn't apply to all the guards and inmates since half of them tend to be sympathetic to the kids and are often harsher on the really bad kids who actually do deserve it, such as the ones who abuse their parents and bully other kids at school.

On one hand, you have the kids who are taken onto the show that are disrespectful and disobedient lawbreakers who are abusive to their own parents and siblings, and like to take drugs, but then you have the prison guards and inmates that are sadistic bullies who like to scream at and humiliate the kids on the show and make them cry, and although they claim to be doing it for the kids' own good, they seem to enjoy it too much, making it hard to see them in a sympathetic light either.

* BrokenBase: While the concept is relatively sound -- [[JacobMarleyWarning warning troubled kids about what things will be like if they keep breaking the law]] -- the execution is a point of contention. Some viewers think that [[CruelToBeKind seeing the harsh realities of prison are just what these kids need]], and that most of them are {{Asshole Victim}}s who have it coming. Other viewers think that the parents, inmates, and police [[WellIntentionedExtremist mean well, but go too far]]. And some people just think of this as a PointAndLaughShow. In any case, it's hard to find a solid consensus.

** Another hilarious moment happens when it turns out one of the delinquents is wearing a ''pink Tweety bird shirt'' under his prison uniform. One prisoner calls it "a bitch-ass shirt".

* {{Anvilicious}}: [[Film/AnimalHouse "Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son."]] The show is not at all subtle with its {{Jacob Marley Warning}}s from the inmates, and the constant intimidation and abuse by the guards. But it is all ''very'' raw and direct about what happens when you go to jail, delivered with all the subtlety of an angry prison guard screaming in your face.

While it can get into {{Narm}} territory quickly, the inmates know they screwed up, and want to make it perfectly clear to these kids that acting tough and/or doing crimes is the DUMBEST thing you can do at a young age, since they're throwing their lives away. The ones that talk are people who are stuck in there for life, so they are likely trying to drill it into their heads directly since thick-headed punks like them know what gets through to other punks: being direct and in their face.

* DarknessInducedAudienceApathy: For many people, it's impossible to root for either side in this show.

--->'''Kydada:''' That street life, that gang, that... All that mess. It's not going to do nothing for you! ''(Kydada breaks down crying)'' I love y'all so much! ''(Putting the phone down, she stands up and walks away)''' Oh my God! I can't take this!
