** 's murder of is considered this by the Blacks, who denounced Aemond as a kinslayer for this, especially since the attack was unprovoked and Lucerys had come as a peace envoy. (This also led the MEH mentioned above.) The Greens, while initially annoyed over Aemond breaking any chance for a peace, didn't see it this way, as they viewed it as "bastard blood, shed in war."

* AssPull: Some regard the Storming of the Dragonpit as a contrived way for GRR Martin [[spoiler:to kill off the remaining dragons. While smaller dragons like Shrykos and Morghul are justified given that they aren't fully grown and thus more vulnerable, the fact that armed peasants were somehow able to kill fully-grown dragons (who are established to be nigh-invulnerable barring their eyes) like Dreamfyre and Syrax tests the reader's suspension of disbelief.]]

** The Riverlander army Addam Velaryon mustered in the Second Battle of Tumbleton. An army, mind you, that was strong enough This would logistically be impossible given that Aemond had effectively reduced the Riverlands to a heap of smoking ash a few months prior.

* JerkassWoobie: Both Aegon II and Rhaenyra have more than their fair share of jerk moments, but they also lost everything in a war defending what both saw as their birthright. Mushroom's account especially emphasizes this, as he records both as being fairly awful people, but he also makes a point of empathizing with them; he points out that Rhaenyra's slide into madness and paranoia was catalyzed by being repeatedly betrayed, having her sons killed, and then suffering a miscarriage on top of that, and that for all Aegon's jerkassery, he also spent his last days an invalid in constant agony, and the only things that gave him any joy were Mushroom himself and alcohol.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Criston Cole, AKA The Kingmaker, was described in Literature/AFeastForCrows as "the best and the worst" of the Kingsguard; a great knight who forgot his place and singlehandedly started a war with his decision to go against his dying king's wishes and crown Aegon instead of Rhaenyra; a character so controversial and infamous that Jaime Lannister identifies with him. The Criston Cole we get in the histories...is not this; not only did his real actions have very little impact on the war's beginning end, but his actual character leans far too heavily to the worst of the Kingsguard.

** Some people despise Rhaenyra, see her as a proto-Cersei example of a SmallNameBigEgo queen and even believe she got what was coming to her. More sympathetic fans think she deserved better and see her as a flawed TragicHero who caved into horrible betrayals and impossible pressures and condemn her enemies as opportunists who stole her birthright.

** Baela, Daemon's SpannerInTheWorks LittleMissBadass daughter, is immensely memorable due to the nature and impact of her fight against Aegon III, even though she loses that battle and spends the rest of the story in the dungeon.

* BrokenBase: Much like the people of Westeros, the fandom is split on whether Rhaenyra or Aegon II was the rightful heir. A lot of people think they both had valid reasons for claiming the Iron Throne,Rhaenyra was chosen by the king himself and the anointed heir as well as being the older one, whereas Aegon was the firstborn son and thus could be considered to come first by default due to his gender but were both terrible and vindictive rulers.

** The fandom is also divided on who committed worse atrocities, the Blacks or the Greens. Objectively, the Greens used dragons to burn the smallfolk in the Riverlands, while the Blacks became paranoid and turned on each other in a self-destructive spiral. Something that everybody can agree on is that Aemond and the Two Betrayers were particularly nasty characters.
