*** The following is a description of the Land of the Unknown:

La Noche is the identical twin sister of La Muerte, and rules over the Land of the Unknown; a level of the underworld where the souls of supernatural beings go when they die. She married El chamuco, Xibalba's older brother.

The land of the unknown is characterized by four geographic features: a vast cool desert, an emerald jungle, a near infinite coastline and a pale spiral city crowned by la noche's moon palace. The Pale City is shaped like a giant spiral seashell and tiered like minas tirith. Inside live the more social creatures of her realm: the john and janes does of humanity, and all the unknown writers and artists who never quite made it. Undiscovered plants and freshwater fish flow through perfumed gardens and graceful fountains. It is a place of art and music and illumination in the land's eternal twilight.

In the mountainous jungle behind the city reside the alebrijes, the strange magical creatures of dreams and mexican folk art. Alongside them are all the undiscovered and elusive cryptids that favor the solitary life, but come to the city once a year for the day of the dead celebration.

the sea is full of the souls of the mythical; selkies, kraken, mermaids, sea nymphs, sirens, hippocampi, sea serpents, and many many more, along with all the species mankind has yet to name that dwell in the deepest blues.

the deep desert holds the souls of those unwelcoming of or dangerous to human company; the hydras, evil dragonkind, wyverns, goblins, demons, kappa and chupacabra. la muerte's wolves, foxes and coyote spirits prowl the borders, herding the more malicious away from the Pale City.

** Xibalba had another nickname besides "Mi Amor" for La Muerte: '''Muertita.'''
** Xibalba and La Muerte have many children, one includes a daughter named Sartana, who is also the "bad one" (and, yes, the one from ''WesternAnimation/ElTigre'').
*** At this point in time Sartana is a teenager; when she gets older, she will do something so horrible in that she is stripped of her god powers and banished to the Land of the Living.
*** Apparently [[spoiler: a broken heart]] caused Sartana's StartOfDarkness.
*** The person who [[spoiler: broke her heart,]] you might ask? None other than [[spoiler: Puma Loco]].
** Xibalba has an older and even more powerful/fearsome brother.
This was brother rules The Land of the Cursed, which is supposedly where the most likely for fun, but Gutiérrez said that had Manolo, Maria, and Joaquin existed in modern times they'd be big anime fans.

The Land of the Cursed is a ''very hot'' place.

*** The same applies to his brother.
** Xibalba and La Muerte met when he was courting her sister, La Noche.
** La Muerte has a twin sister named La Noche. The sisters are rivals in ''everything'', to the point that La Noche even married La Muerte's old flame. Together with her husband, La Noche rules the Land of the Unknown.
** La Noche is as beautiful as La Muerte, but more Aztec and Mayan
** The reason that Xibalba was banished to the Land of the Forgotten in the first place was
because he became apparently [[YourCheatingHeart cheated on La Muerte with other goddesses]]. WordOfGod later revealed that [[SubvertedTrope he never actually did]]. It just appeared that way.
** El Chamuco, La Muerte's old flame and her sister's husband, still has feelings for La Muerte.
*** The reason El Chamuco and La Noche married is "complicated".
** The Candlemaker is
a Mexican Rodeo Bullfighting Clown.friend of Xibalba and La Muerte, but he had "a thing" for the latter.
** La Noche and El Chamuco married on the same day as La Muerte and Xibalba.
** Xibalba is actually an overprotective dad.
** Xibalba and El Chamuco's relationship is “sibling rivalry on a gods level”.
** La Noche and El Chamuco started dating before La Muerte and Xibalba.
** El Chamuco wasn't the previous ruler of the Land of the Forgotten before Xibalba.
** The Candle Maker had a human disguise too. [[spoiler: He was the bus driver that brought the detention kids to the museum. In fact, all of the gods played a role in causing the kids to get detention/be in that specific group.]]
** La Noche was basically going to be a "female version of Xibalba in terms of personality", according to Jorge Gutiérrez.
** Xibalba and La Muerte officially met when they were both pretending to be humans on Earth.
** As it turns out, the gods only went to that museum for the one day in order to talk to the kids; however, other gods tend to use the museum for similar reasons.
** El Chamuco is made out of lava and has a dragon trident.
*** And, if the lava and trident imagery and the above "sibling rivalry" post didn't tip anything off, El Chamuco is in fact Xibalba's older brother.

** The detention kids walk through the same walkway where Manolo and Joaquin reunite.

** The Detention Kids met each other on the day they served their detention.
** The Detention Kids all end up serving their detention [[spoiler: because the gods made it happen.]]

** He also revealed the real name of "Goth Kid" (the purple-haired boy in the group of Detention Kids): Luka Ramirez.
*** Luka is apparently related to Maria (through a sibling of hers).
** Jorge Gutierrez described the film as being set during "a magic-realist version of 1920" on his Twitter.
** Thomas, one of the other tour guides, is related to at least the Posada's.
** Apparently there exists a '''The Book of Death''', the EvilCounterpart to The Book of Life.
** There are no children in The Land of the Forgotten. They most likely will remain in the Remembered for eternity (makes sense, since La Muerte loves children).
** Apparently, [[https://twitter.com/mexopolis/status/565330053010296833 this sexy lady]] is Chakal's daughter, The Bandit Princess Chela. If a sequel is made, she will be going to San Angel to avenge her father.
*** She also has a female wolf for a pet.
*** She will also most likely be an "interesting" rival for Joaquin.
* There are 13 different realms in the Mexopolis universe; the seven revealed as of now are the lands of The Living, Remembered, Forgotten, Cursed, Blessed, Unknown, and the Cave of Souls.

* Joaquin is also apparently skilled in calligraphy.
* After war hero General Mondragon's death at the hands of the bandit king Chakal, Joaquin Jr.'s mother Mrs. Mondragon left the town of San Angel, leaving her first born and only child and only son Joaquin in the care of General Posada. Mrs. Mondragon is still alive and currently living in Mexico city.

** Continuing on with this, Carmen was Justice Jaguar's sister.
* Xibalba and La Muerte have many children, one includes a daughter named Sartana, who is also the "bad one" (and, yes, the one from ''WesternAnimation/ElTigre'').
** At this point in time Sartana is a teenager; when she gets older, she will do something so horrible in that she is stripped of her god powers and banished to the Land of the Living.
* Xibalba has an older and even more powerful/fearsome brother. This brother rules The Land of the Cursed, which is supposedly where the most wicked dead reside.

* Jorge and Anita are siblings
* For some reason, Joaquin's mother blames herself for what happened to her husband and eventually went mad from it. This is why Gutiérrez describes her as an "eternal widow".
** She came from a wealthy family and demanded that Joaquin Sr. give her a lavished lifestyle, which most likely resulted in him and the medal. When he died, she retreated to her mansion in the city from guilt and only ever leaves to see Joaquin.
* As fans speculated, Joaquin is half-German from his mother Gertrude's side. She even taught him some of the language!
** [[http://mexopolis.tumblr.com/post/108762998499/mexopolis-this-is-joaquins-mother-gertrude Here]] is Gertrude's character design.
* At least one of Manolo's ''shown'' ancestors is LGBT.
* Joaquin's rank in the military was Private First Class.
