* ''Series/SquidGame'' is about adults playing children's games to win money, so it seems like harmless entertainment for kids at first, right? Not exactly--the show is extremely violent, characters often swear, and there's an on-screen sex scene to top things off. [[CapitalismIsBad Its themes]] will also fly right over young viewers' heads. Despite this, ''VideoGame/{{Roblox}}'', a game meant primarily for children, features games based on the series, and many kid-friendly Website/YouTube channels have made their own version of the games.

* According to Creator/LisaKudrow, she has met kids claiming that their parents let them watch ''Series/{{Friends}}''. While ''Friends'' [[SeinfeldIsUnfunny is not particularly vulgar by modern standards]], there are still way too many storylines revolving around sex to consider it appropriate for younger viewers. Creator/{{Netflix}} also has the series in the separate "Kids" section of their site for profiles set to "older kids" level, and HBO Max also classifies it as a kids' show.

* Another ABC show, ''Series/TheGoldbergs'', was advertised in cinemas before family-friendly movies such as ''WesternAnimation/{{Planes}}'' and ''WesternAnimation/{{Turbo}}'', and was also advertised in banner ads on The Hub's (now Creator/DiscoveryFamily) website. From the preview, it looks like a fun sitcom about a boy having crazy adventures in TheEighties with his family, and he likes a few things from that era kids still like today like ''Franchise/StarWars''. Except that there are adult themes in the show and uncensored and censored swearing, mostly from the father on the show, and sometimes even Adam swears! [[note]] Only the really bad words, like the F-word, are bleeped to keep it at a TV-PG level. For example, the second season's Halloween episode had a whole string of censored swearing before cutting to an ad break.[[/note]] There are also episodes about Barry being taught about sex and the kids finding a scrambled porn channel (that we don't get to see, of course) when they are trying to watch ''Series/GeneralHospital''.

* ''Series/KnightRider'' is often stereotyped as a kids' show because it has one hero and his super cool super car, but the first season itself is loaded with episodes about politics, corrupt police, framed murder charges, a lover implicated in soliciting crime and the murder of a sleaze magazine owner- plenty of murders in the first season. The pilot is surely not for kids. Plenty of gunshots fired in the show actually hit -- and a few kill. Contrast that with ''Series/TheATeam'' which has only two casualties in the whole run and almost none of the shots fired by the heroes hit.

* ''Series/MADtv1995'' was never intended to be for young kids, but there are some easily misunderstood sketches that a parent would not think much of unless he or she sat down and really listened to the dialogue very carefully. The best examples of these being the ''Series/SesameStreet'' parodies and Creator/{{Disney}} Girl sketches, which look superficially kid-friendly but contain mature themes, or at least cover topics that kids would not usually care about, that would often go over kids' heads. For the ''Series/SesameStreet'' parodies, besides covering mature topics such as the economy and politics, they also feature the muppets' death from Bird Flu, Gordon dousing Big Bird in gasoline to get ready to burn him to death, gun violence, internet pedophiles, and a song and dance mentioning prison rape. For the Disney Girl sketches, each one had the character starting out seemingly kid-friendly and wholesome, only to eventually end up revealing her as a prostitute or porn star. Despite all of this, these sketches have erroneously been marked as being "For Kids" on Website/YouTube.
