The plot takes place not long after the first movie. Poppy (Creator/AnnaKendrick), who is trying to be a good queen, learns that there are six different kingdoms of Trolls aside from her own. They consist of Pop, Funk, Techno, Classical, Country, and Rock. Each kingdom has a set of [[{{Macguffin}} strings]] that allow them to create music. When she discovers that Queen Barb (Creator/RachelBloom) of the Rock kingdom wants to obtain the strings and destroy all music that isn't rock, Poppy and Branch (Music/JustinTimberlake) set out to unite the other kingdoms before Barb can destroy them.

* AnAesop:
** Differences DO matter. True harmony doesn't come from treating it as better for everyone to be the same, but from listening to each other and acknowledging and celebrating your differences. Denying people's differences for the sake of maintaining a united front is also just as bad, since it ignores that those differences (and thus the complex problems that come with it) will always exist no matter how much you pretend otherwise.
** Being a good leader and a good friend means also being a good listener.
** A personal one also occurs for Poppy when she learns the truth about why the trolls were separated in the first place: The history you are told is not always guaranteed to be accurate. History is WrittenByTheWinners, and there will be things that are whitewashed or removed in order to paint the winning side in a better light.

TRS wick cleanupMemetic Hand Gesture has been disambiguated

* MemeticHandGesture: As some posters show, the sign of the horns show up from various characters. [[AllThereInTheManual Supplementary materials]] explain that all of the main troll tribes get their own cultural hand gestures, and that (naturally) this is the Rock trolls', which shows in their scenes.
** Pop trolls have the fingers crossed "good luck" gesture.
** Classical Trolls use the "OK" gesture, like how one would hold a conductor baton.
** Country trolls get the "Shaka" or "hang loose" sign, where only the thumb and pinky are extended. Given that they have only four fingers, this could also be a reference to "Hook 'em horns", from University of Texas.
** Funk Trolls do the "peace out" V sign.
** Techno trolls make a heart with the thumb and index of both hands.
