* FriendOrIdolDecision: In "Cedric's Apprentice", when it came time for Cedric to use his concocted invisibility potion, he has to decide either to use it on himself so he can take the Amulet, or a different subject. Ultimately, because of Sofia's kindness and the fact she helped him prove what a great sorcerer he is to Magnus, he goes with the latter and uses the potion on Clover instead.

Added DiffLines:

* KnowNothingKnowItAll: Hildegard is revealed to be one in "The Princess Stays in the Picture". After tripping and being laughed at on her first day at Royal Prep due to her ignorance at twirling, she began believing princesses have to know everything and pretended to do just that. After some advice from Sofia, Hildegard becomes more truthful of herself.

Added DiffLines:

* RightForTheWrongReasons: In the PilotMovie, Sofia is shocked when she thinks she said the words to Cedric's dance spell wrong when it made everyone in the ballroom fall into a ForcedSleep. She's wrong about the type of spell she used (he gave her a sleeping spell instead of the intended dance spell), but she was right that she said it wrong because the incantation to activate, "Somnibus populi cella", is Latin for, "Sleep, people in the room."

* ApologizesALot: Sort of a recurring theme of the series, more or less -- the show is full of morals, of course, given its target audience, and the biggest one seems to be that an apology is the first step in correcting a mistake.

* WhatTheHellIsThatAccent: Cedric, the King's Sorcerer. Everyone else at court speaks with an American accent, but Cedric has a bizarre "British" accent that seems to migrate around the British Isles at will. In the same sentence he can go from Cockney to Scouse to Brummie and then back again. His family members also possess British accents, but they all sound different too! As Credric , his accent settles into something resembling the Received Pronounciation of his parents.

A major plot point of the show is Sofia possessing a powerful artifact, the Amulet of Avalor, which blesses its bearer incredible powers and abilities, and must never take it off and protect it from numerous villains who want to use it for their own purposes. Cedric, the bumbling castle sorcerer, secretly plots to use the amulet's magic to take over Enchancia, but always fails. Sofia never discovers his true nature until the final season premiere.

* ForWantOfANail: "Through the Looking Back Glass" reveals that [[spoiler:a single incident in his childhood resulted in Cedric's decision to take over the kingdom. He bungled a spell that changed Cordelia's hair (though it was Cordelia who unknowingly mixed the potions by accident), and was judged an inefficient sorcerer by Enchancia ever since. Throughout multiple episodes of bullying, being harshly judged and put down in his life by former loved ones excluding his mother and niece, particularly with a SelfFulfillingProphecy, Cedric's aspirations grew stronger and stronger. Thank goodness Sofia came along.]]

* AdoptedIntoRoyalty: Sofia becomes this upon her mother's marriage to King Roland. He doesn't actually adopt her outright as he legally remains her stepfather, but likely on account of her young age, and desire to be a good father figure to her, he does grant her the title and rank of a royal Princess.

trope about IU colorism

* ButNotTooBlack: WordOfGod is that Sofia is supposed to have a Spanish dark-skinned mother. While pale complexion and brown hair is not uncommon among real-life Latin Americans, the fact that she does not take after her darker mother appears to be this trope. May be explained by her father possibly being pale-skinned.

** In "The Amulet and the Anthem", a croaking-cursed Sofia is torn between deciding whether to give her amulet to Cedric despite promising her father she'd never take it off, or keep it and risk being cursed right when she is to sing the Enchancia Anthem at the Harvest Festival. After the amulet summons Belle to help her, Sofia realizes she never made things right and takes a third option where she admits her condition and lets Ruby and Jade sing the anthem in her place, which breaks the curse.
