It was based on Ian Jones-Quartey's ''Lakewood Plaza Turbo'' short that premiered as one of Creator/CartoonNetwork's minisodes. It eventually got more ''Lakewood Plaza Turbo'' shorts before the name switched to ''OK K.O.!'' a series of shorts made to advertise the ''OK K.O.! Lakewood Plaza Turbo'' app with a few of them headed by the animation team at Creator/MasaakiYuasa's Science Saru. As of 2017, the minisodes have been picked up by Cartoon Network as a full-fledged series.
