* RealityEnsues: {{Discussed|Trope}} when Sunset Shimmer tells the others about the [[InTheHood hooded figure]] she saw snooping around the rearing horse statue and the portal in its base. The girls dismiss it as a CatScare over a Crystal Prep student planning to deface the statue.

* TheMillstone: While Human Twilight excels at the academic portion of the Friendship Games, she's completely useless in the athletic portion. She faceplants trying to do a simple jump, can barely swing on a rope over asmall gap, and has extreme trouble hitting an archery target. It's only through Applejack's help that Human Twilight manages to hit a target, and by then, Crystal Prep is hopelessly behind.

* PhlebotinumOverload: Though Twilight's device can successfully contain the magic of the Rainbooms, it starts to destabilize when it drains the magic of the portal while trying to drain Sunset's magic. Whenever it opens to drain more magic after that, the energy is released, causing portals to Equestria to form in size and proportion to the amount of magic it has drained. [[spoiler:Once all six have been drained and Twilight absorbs all that power, it threatens to destroy their entire reality.]]

* SeriousBusiness: Pretty much everyone treats the Games like this, with Luna even name-dropping the trope and the Rainbooms getting slightly offended when [[OnlySaneMan Sunset]] wonders what all the fuss is about, since it's not as important as, say, stopping the Sirens. [[spoiler:Heck, Principal Cinch and the Shadowbolts even try to harness Equestrian magic -- something they hardly understand -- just to ensure they win the Games.]]

* ShesGotLegs: Now that the costume design has started moving away from the original toyline's hoof-shaped boots, a lot of the outfits in this movie seem to be made to show off the girls' legs, such as the Crystal Prep skirt uniform as well as the dresses the Rainbooms wear to the welcome party. * AscendedMeme: The term "pony up" was first used by fans in reference to the TransformationSequence of the Human Five and Twilight Sparkle in the original ''Equestria Girls'' film, and was acknowledged by the producers in the commentary for ''Rainbow Rocks''.
