* UnexpectedCharacter: Since Pete regularly plays the bad guy in big adventure stories, nearly nobody was expecting to be given a role as the true villain of "Superhero Adventure", especially since at first it seems as if it's Pete as usual.
** However, due to the constant advertising on Disney Junior of this special, all of which featuring Mortimer Mouse, this comes off more as TheUnreveal.

** Heck, even the MagicalIncantation for the clubhouse borrows from the original MickeyMouseClub series' "Mousekartoon" segment, while the Toon Plane is straight out of the classic short, "Plane Crazy".

* SayMyName[=/=]IncrediblyLamePun: Several objects in the show have the word "mouse" glued onto their names, usually by way of the baleful syllable "ka". The most prominent example, "Mousekatools" is a play on words of "Mouseketeer", the title given to the real life kids who appeared on TheMickeyMouseClub. "Mouseketeer" is, of course, itself a play on "Musketeer".

** "Mickey's Monster Musical" special has plenty of nods to (of all things) Film/TheRockyHorrorPictureShow with Mickey and Minnie's car braking down next to a hunted castle with a mad scientist. Even the opening song is a refrence to "Dammit Jannet" only with Mickey asking Minnie to go on a picking with him inste of proposing. The mayority of the episode is series of cartoon Universal Monsters cliches so the "Rocky Picture Show" homage will get over kids heads.

* LighterAndSofter: In most of his incarnations, Pete is an outright villain or at the very least, a major Jerkass. Here, though, he's a genuinely nice guy, if a of an bit arrogant blowhard and regularly greedy and sneaky in stories, where he always ends up seeing the error of his ways and coming around anyway.
