* AlphaBitch: Queen makes her character known with the fact that she attempts to force Nerd to be her boyfriend in spite of him already being in a relationship with Tiger. She is also shown to believe she can just buy him off of Tiger, thinking it to be the same as [[RichInMoneyPoorInSense buy seven purses]].

* CordonBleughChef: Ziz-zagged with Jock. He's a decent enough cook, although his idea of making soup involves adding scoops of protein powder which according to Nerd makes it taste really weird.

* BaitAndSwitch: The staple of the humor for the series in the early years is that it plays off of Nerd and Jocks' odd friendship. The setup was always that Jock would act threatening or otherwise make a stereotypically masculine move towards Nerd, but the reveal would be that the Jock would actually need Nerds' help in some way. This was phased out completely once their characters were fully established as best friends and more recent strips play with expectations in different ways instead (Nerd getting a miniature rock as a Halloween treat, and out pops a miniature Dwayne Johnson, [[BigRedDevil Zenetreus The Eternal]] being summoned by Stalker Girl for fashion advice despite initially being mad about the call, or Nerd attempting to cook Jock and Olga a meal while at a restaurant, and the owner is okay with it as he doesn't have to pay him).

* ClarkKenting: Nerd usually has a typically scrawny geek physique, even when only wearing swim trunks. Later strips show that he can flex at will and instantly become jacked, (even after though it’s established that he does train in the gym to achieve this).

* LovableJock: Jock is one of the most lovable examples in fiction. He shares a close friendship with Nerd and is generally very supportive of him, even helping him with exercising and weightlifting. In early strips he seemed to be a bully at first, but it always turned out he wasn't.
