* LighterAndFluffier: Sort of, in retrospect. Anyone who backpedals from ''Webcomic/OtherPeoplesBusiness'' to ''B.m.B'' is in for a heck of a culture shock. It's hard to believe that this was the jumping off point for the arcs in the late ''Webcomic/FriendlyHostility'' and ''Webcomic/OtherPeoplesBusiness''.
** The comic was even a lighter and softer move at the time. Harley and Mik were initially characters from a much darker series she made called ''Utopia'', which is now lost forever. She was unhappy with it, and didn't like the dark and depressing nature, and decided to make ''Webcomic/BoyMeetsBoy'' as a way of giving the characters a happier life.

May December Romance indicates an age gap of multiple decades (ie, one partner is in the "springtime" of their life while the other is in the "winter" of theirs). Harley is 19 and Mik is 25, which doesn't even break the "half your age plus seven" rule.

* MayDecemberRomance: There's a bit of an age gap between Mik and Harley. When they first had sex Harley was only 17. (But Mik didn't know that at the time.)

* NoSocialSkills: Mik is an artist millionaire, but really has no friends or family of his own, and due to his career doesn't really have any regular work colleagues. As a result, he sort of has an unhealthy attachment to his boyfriend Harley and in turn Harley's social circle for most of his interactions. This does get called out now and again, and eventually Mik does end up making a friend of his own, who is almost as awkward as he is.

* AbortedArc: Cy's unrequited crush on Skids; early in the comic this was basically the B-plot of the story, yet as the author grew to personally dislike the Cy character, the story would eventually be abandoned with no reveal nor pay-off (this is presumably due to the fact the author started the comic Cy was based heavily on their then-boyfriend, but after they broke up the author grew resentful of how much the Cy character reminded them of him).

* EmbarrassingTattoo: Mik has one as a result of a drunken night in college; he attempts to get his then-boyfriend, Tybalt's name tattooed on his hip, but in a drunken slur gives the tattoo artist the wrong name. Feeling guilty because the tattoo artists ''did'' coerce Mik into getting the tattoo while inebriated offer to fix it, replacing it with a "passable" zebra-striped ankh (that Tybalt finds hilariously odd-looking).
