** It can't have been the Hero of Time because his death in this timeline gave Ganon the complete Triforce, leading to ''A Link to the Past''. Most likely it was the ''A Link Between Worlds Link'' who recognized the danger of having the complete Triforce in one place but wanted to avoid a repeat of what happened to Lorule.

* In regards to Ganon losing his intelligence, that appears to have been because of his botched resurrection in the Oracle games, which showed that he was still capable of laughter and a limited amount of speech. Perhaps some fragment of Ganondorf remained before being wielded away by the timeframe of the original game? Or maybe calling him a mindless beast (like said game did) was a bit of an exaggeration.

* [=OoT=] King of Hyrule. They couldn't name a town after Zelda to complete the seven Sages, so her father was the next best thing.

* Someone placed the Triforce of Courage in the great temple and erected 6 palaces with statues that project a force field blocking anyone from entering it. This person left 6 crystals (which switch off the statues) with Irma's order (or her ancestors) and a scroll telling Link to get the Triforce of Courage. There is no one else this could have been than a previous incarnation/ancestor of Link. (Possibly the adult Hero of Time?)

* (As for the other way of reading the above -- that Link is so comprehensively corrupted by this evil magic that he ends up a plausible "substitute Ganon", [[http://zelda.gamepedia.com/The_Legend_of_Zelda_(Cagaronne)/Issue_3 it's been imagined at least once before]].)

Because there is nobody to wield the Triforce of Wisdom properly, Hyrule has been slowly falling apart over the centuries, much like [[TheLegendOfZeldaALinkBetweenWorlds Lorule]] was without a Triforce at all. The result is that the only liquid you ever see in any cave is magma. This isn't just Death Mountain or the Valley of Death later on: the cave in Tantari desert has deadly magma pits, right next to the ocean. Also, let's not forget the screens with the rising bubbles: poison from the boiling ocean. Funny how all those temples also had so much lava in them, huh? Thankfully, we can assume that Hyrule begins to mend itself once the ancient Zelda is awake, but if Link was to die on the way...
