And if he had been older and wiser at the time he saw the omen (or if his mentor had still been alive), that might have happened. But he couldn't forgive Mapleshade for having had kits with Appledusk, who had killed the Clan leader's son, and the DisasterDominoes started cascading from there. After the resulting fallout ended in seven deaths and one banishment to the Dark Forest, [=StarClan=] instituted an unofficial rule that queens were allowed to keep the fathers of their kits a secret if they wanted to. Never again would the parentage of half-Clan kits be revealed to a medicine cat.

Ravenwing didn't react to it the way they thought he would. He was still a young, inexperienced medicine cat at the time Mapleshade's kits were born, and his mentor had recently died. [=StarClan=]'s intention was for a trustworthy cat to know Mapleshade's secret so she wouldn't have to bear it all by herself. They hoped that when he found out, he'd take some time to think about what he should do, and eventually, either compassion (they were innocent kits, no matter who fathered them) or pragmatism (three more warriors for [=ThunderClan=] = good, and three less for [=RiverClan=] = even better) would make him decide to help Mapleshade keep her secret. And if he had been older and wiser at the time he saw the omen (or if his mentor had still been alive), that might have happened. It was a tragic story to read about the 3 kits drowning; I see no reason [=StarClan=] would not take pity on them and allow them to live the lives they never had, just like Cinderpelt's warrior life. Although I don't see this as a 'spirit possession' thing like with Cinderpelt and Cinderheart, but ''actual'' reincarnation, like with the three. As an additional thing, perhaps Wrenflight is a reincarnation of Wolfheart and Flytail a reincarnation of Runningstorm (his sister and brother).

[[WMG:Tallstar may not have interpreted his last prophetic dream correctly.]]
Near the end of his life, he had a nightmare of [=WindClan=] fighting a brutal, unjust battle, with mothers wailing for their kits and warriors dying everywhere, and Mudstar overseeing it all. But maybe it was unjust not because Mudstar dragged them into it, but because another Clan had committed a crime against them and fighting was their only choice.

[[WMG: Tallstar is the reincarnation of Smallstar.]]
This is at least my headcanon. If you have read ''Code of the Clans'', you'll know that Smallstar and his littermates drowned as kits, as cats from another clan refused to save them. Smallstar in particular was supposed to have been leader. This is the only case we've heard of that these cats had these set predicted positions from the get-go. They may have been pretty important. Even stranger, when seen in [=StarClan=], they are adults. [=StarClan=] may have thought Smallstar deserved another life to become leader (I mean, if Cinderpelt, who lived a full life, got a chance, why wouldn't a cat who never lived his destiny?)Some supporting factors include:
#Tallstar and Smallstar are both black and white toms
#They are both from [=WindClan=]
#Their names echo each other in their irony; instead of being super small, he's super tall!
#Tallstar became leader just as Smallstar was supposed to
#It's a nice thought!
