Under King Sombra's rule, it was called the Crystal Empire. When Cadence takes the throne, she will declare it the Crystal Kingdom.

Assuming the theories about him and Cadence becoming the rulers are true, he will probably step down due to the conflict of interest that results from being the leader of one country and the military leader of another. There may be a future episode that deals with his successor.

Upon taking the throne, [[PowerMakesYourHairGrow her mane will grow into an energy mane]] like her aunts, signifying her awakening as a full fledged Alicorn. Bonus points if King Sombra's power comes from perverting some power inherent to the ruler of the Crystal Kingdom and Cadence takes in the purified version.

The Crystal Pony's words imply his reign is over, so the mane six or possibly the Princesses defeat him in the first half, they rest of the two parter deals with breaking his curse on the Crystal Empire before it disappears again, leaving the Crystal Ponies trapped in his spell for another thousand years. So he'll still be the BigBad, just in a more indirect manner than before. Cadance's magic is being used to keep the Crystal Empire tethered in reality, but can't last for long, because she can't maintain the spell forever, making it a race against time.

Based on what we know, King Somber caused the Crystal Ponies to be depressed and indifferent. Chances are, he doesn't want it to stop there. He wants it to spread to all of Equestria and the images of a ruined Sweet Apple Acres and Carousel Boutique are what Applejack and Rarity fear will happen if he gets his way.

Said child will have nothing particularly and extravagantly special about her, but something about a new baby being born in the middle of whatever-crisis-the-Empire-is-going-through, will calm the masses and bring about the Second Great Age of the Crystal Empire.

And Twilight and Co. will need to find an alternate method to restore harmony in the Crystal Empire.
