Perhaps we'll eventually get a gaiden game detailing how the worlds were separated starring Kairi's grandmother as a child. It makes about as much sense as a lot of the other stuff here.

But the events of the game are said to take place over a century before Kingdom Hearts, which means Kairi's grandmother would have to be very old indeed to have been a child during this time.

Condiering Riku's absence after Castle Oblivion is presented largely in Days, it seems that Mickey's absence during Kingdom Hearts 1 is the only one of those left untold. So it seems it's very likely that one of the mentioned two new spinoff games releasing before [=KH3=] will chronicle the adventure Mickey had in his search for the Kingdom Key D in the dark realm.
