At first, back in TheSeventies (a hotbed of militant leftism, ''and'' apparently Tarantino's favorite decade), it may have just been Bill and Budd. Over the following decades it expanded--perhaps developing a particular focus on {{ecoterroris|t}}m in TheNineties, once the other four had joined. Hanzo's hatred of Bill may be due to fracturation between them--perhaps due to MotiveDecay on Bill's part, as indicated by the luxurious lifestyle we see at the time of the movie, or else just due to [[WeAREStrugglingTogether hairsplitting factionalism]] in the style of [[Film/MontyPythonsLifeOfBrian the Judean People's Front and the People's Front of Judea]].

She wanted the Bride to die with both suffering and gravitas. As dishonorable as SickbedSlaying may be, a lethal injection of TechnicolorToxin from a killer in a flashy disguise is nonetheless a ''dramatic'' way to go. Upon hearing that Budd had the Bride at his mercy, Elle reasoned that Budd would be too much of a CombatPragmatist to wait for her to finish off the Bride with the right kind of showmanship (and didn't realize that he was actually ''hoping'' the Bride would escape). So Elle decided to make the best of that situation, instructing Budd to make her hated enemy "suffer to her last breath" (which she figured he'd do in his typical BoringButPractical style, as opposed to the [[BuriedAlive Texas funeral]] he ended up using) but then punishing Budd for not being theatrical enough. (In addition to her apparent jealousy over Bill, the other reason Elle wanted the Bride to suffer was for escaping her that first time at the hospital--we saw how pissed off she got when Bill called off the hit!) Also, presumably her other motive for killing Budd was just to get her hands on that Hanzo steel without forking over the million dollars he demanded.

[[WMG: Bill tried to kill the Bride partly because [[HeKnowsTooMuch he didn't want her leaking information about the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad to the authorities]].]]
Maybe Vernita was allowed to settle down with her own husband and daughter because she discussed it with Bill ahead of time and agreed not to inform on the Vipers. In contrast, the Bride faked her death and resurfaced under a pseudonym, which likely came off as highly suspicious to the rest of the squad, who could've taken it as part of a witness relocation arrangement.

Obviously, we know that [[spoiler: Elle killed Pei Mei after he tore her eye out.]] We don't know exactly when this happened but it's implied that it happened during her training. Now, the Bride had already gone through training and it seems that Vernita went through training with Pei Mei since she could go hand-to-hand with the Bride. Considering O-Ren was Bill's protege', we can assume that she also recieved training (we never see her martial arts skills). This would leave Elle as the last person to be trained and we know how that ended. Everyone seemed to have a low opinion of Budd's skill. Obviously, he let himself go, but when Bill asked if he was still practicing sword-fighting, martial arts never came up. Budd certainly didn't expect the Bride to punch her way through the coffin (seems that technique was the very first lesson.) He was next in line to be trained and it never happened due to Elle.

***While you're correct, it presumes a few things that we can't know for sure. One, there's no guarantee that the sword used to kill O-Ren's father is a Hanzo sword. Hattori has presumably made plenty of swords throughout his life, so it's possible he made either multiple swords for Bill, or that he didn't make Bill's until after the murder of O-Ren's father. When it comes to the jewelry, people change jewelry all the time. What I think is most interesting is that the killer of O-Ren's father has a skull ring on, and Bill's Hanzo sword has a Japanese demon skull on the Saya (the scabbard or sheathe). That being said, in my personal headcanon, the reasons why I always took him to be Bill have less to do with the sword or the jewelry, but the cinematography and the rest of his look. Why would a random mook get so much focus and attention from Quentin UNLESS he had some significance to the rest of the story, or some strong connection ASIDE from being the murder of O-Ren's father? You spend nearly as much time looking at him than you do Boss Matsumoto, the one who orchestrated the killings. Quentin doesn't do that unless there's a greater significance to the character. Further, his entire look and demeanor (especially the long hair with the same part on the left side) clearly evokes Bill. Not to mention, with his dark hair, he's a dead-ringer for David Carradine as he looked when he played Caine in "Kung Fu". Further, there's a line from Budd when he's speaking with Bill: "Them Japs, they sure know how to hold a grudge, don't they? Well maybe, you just tend to bring that out in people". While he's ostensibly talking about Hanzo making a sword for Beatrix, I think it also references him killing O-Ren's father, and considering that Bill is apparently hiding out in Central America, maybe it's because he knows that with O-Ren being the leader of the Yakuza, Japan is a no-go zone because she'd try to kill him. The last part is extreme personal headcanon, but since the DVAS clearly have broken up sometime after the Massacre at Two Pines, it's clearly because Bill has shown his propensity to backstab (Pai Mei hates him, Hanzo hates him, Budd hates him, he killed the love of his life because she wanted to leave the business, even though she was pregnant with HIS kid, Vernita is annoyed at him because she wanted the Black Mamba codename, and Elle probably hates him because he wouldn't let him kill Beatrix in the hospital, and because she knows he doesn't love her the way he loved Beatrix).

*** To add onto this, from the framing of the entire shot in the room, it's obvious that she was looking at Boss Matsumoto, who was sitting down in a chair watching everything. From under the bed, there's no physical way she'd be able to look up and see Bill, but since Boss Matsumoto is sitting down on the other side of the room, she'd be able to see him. Otherwise, how would she know it was done by Matsumoto UNLESS she saw him?
