In ''[=HoTD=] 3'', there are two unused tracks in the soundtrack titled [[https://youtu.be/s6ZRHYtUQqs "The First Impression"]] and [[https://youtu.be/8hrN8XkklYQ "At The End of The Fight"]]. While the former was used as the menu theme in the [=PS3=] release, the latter track remains unused. My theory is that it was originally going to be for an extended bonus ending that was unlocked if you did really well, and achieved the standard or mystery man ending (since the bad or zombie-in-car endings wouldn't tie in well). and the cutscene would be of Rogan reuniting with Sofie and possibly a few more post-final boss stuff to fit the two-minute song in. They probably either scrapped it due to time constraints or it being too long compared to other cutscenes in the game. The way the aforementioned song sounds really made me think what they could have done with it.

[[WMG: Thornheart is the Devil.]]
The last remaining Tarot card for the heroes to fight is the Devil, implying he might be the GreaterScopeVillain of the series. Thornheart is behind even Curien and ''Goldman'', so what if he is the one who poisoned their minds with his misanthropy? His misanthropy also makes him similar to depictions of Satan.

Up To Eleven is a defunct trope

In Hebrew legend, when God’s faith in pre-Flood humanity first faltered, Azazel and Shemhazai note that they warned him that this would happen because of humans not being as durable as cherubim. When God responds that evil/yetzer ha-ra is a risk for ''anything'' living on Earth, even cherubim, they decide to head there to prove him wrong. They immediately proceed to fall into lust and entitlement over human women. While Shemhazai ultimately repents and departs, Azazel not only doesn’t, but proceeds to make more Nephilim ([[HalfHumanHybrid human-cherub hybrids]]), which in turn produce Elyo. Both sets [[ExtremeOmnivore eat everything in reach]], and would have devoured the Earth itself (and presumably [[UpToEleven Heaven next]]) if God hadn’t sent the Flood to drown them out and imprisoned Azazel.

[[WMG: Thornheart et al. are being manipulated by [[FallenAngel Azazel]].]]

In this hypothesis, the ancestors of the [=DBR=] heads from the 1880s were unwittingly researching ''Naphil'' tissue, thus continuing a possible plan of Azazel’s to replace God’s “defective” evolutionary web with one of his own design. Bonus points for the creatures basically being normal organisms “eaten” and supplanted by the mutagen’s essence. Even more for Azazel, as a fallen angel, being nicely linked with the last remaining Major Arcanum, the Devil—both for Christian devils ''being'' warped cherubim, and the Devil representing the id and base desires that Azazel arrogantly assumed he was eternally immune to, but ultimately gloried in.

"Scarecrow's Manor".

* Goldman has a memorial alongside Curien's in Scarlet Dawn, so this theory is probably jossed. But then again, Scarlet Dawn does take place before HOTD III, in which Curien was revealed to have become The Wheel of Fate. So you never know...

* This type of thing has happened before in the series, when Curien was resurrected as The Wheel of Fate in HOTD III. so this wouldn't be something completely outside the range of plausibility in this franchise. If you listen closely, both The World and HOTD 4 Goldman have a very similar-sounding voice, and most likely the same exact voice actor(though the VAs for this game cannot be found so this isn't confirmed).

* An ''official'' [=HotD5=] (not counting Scarlet Dawn) will be Thornheart using Daniel Curien's cure in the ending of ''3'' for his endgame. This will serve as the GrandFinale of the entire series with all the playable characters and previous bosses returning while the final tarot boss, The Devil will serve as the FinalBoss.
** A dodge mechanic will be implemented to dodge the attacks that can be easily avoided if you moved to the left or right, which is a lot if you think about it.
** The number of players will definitely exceed two due to the number of surviving heroes. The difficulty will be scaled to the number of players.

* Jossed. Scarlet Dawn does add the High Priestess and the Moon... except the latter is the final boss, with the Hanged Man and Chariot returning as stage bosses. The Devil is still unaccounted for. Could still be in the next game, though.

* This is additionally compounded by several visual hints in all of the games besides those mentioned, particularly in the environments; The general vastness of the laboratories you visit (who would need several levels of basements, bunkers and caves just to create a zombie virus?), and the many instances of human-sized test tubes, some occupied (and even visibly exited by) the enemies you fight in the game. Equally noteworthy is the idea that its sort of a half-and-half mixture of the infected and the vat-grown. Those found wearing human clothes and general day-to-day gear can be considered bitten, infected or otherwise turned into a zombie by force, while other "weirder" types (like the ever-present skinny, naked types and shapeless, moss-covered "water" zombies) could be considered specifically grown, since enemies in those subtypes all look identical to one another, with possibly minor differences.
