If he tried to leave his chamber, he'd have to pass under it to complete his escape. But even he probably couldn't survive having ''that'' land on him... A direct hit would probably be no less deadly than Quote and Curly unloading maximum firepower on him for two minutes. Of course, it's really more of an extra layer of security in case the magic seal fails, than the main thing keeping him there. Of course she really preferred non-lethal containment for her brother, and there's always a risk he could dodge it seeing as it only has one chance to hit him, but it was still seen as better than nothing in the event containment was breached. Regardless, the fact that Quote had to defeat it in order get to Ballos coming from the other direction is merely a coincidence, since it wasn't there to keep intruders out, but to keep Ballos ''in''.

[[WMG: Misery was the voice in the Blood Stained Sanctuary.]]
With Jenka and Ballos being her mother and uncle respectively, and Misery herself being directly involved in the later part of the story, it stands to reason that she knows all of what happened. And telepathic speech seems like a logical power for a magic-user like her to have. (She likely spoke in the third-person because she doubted Quote would trust her if he knew who was speaking, or possibly to distance herself out of shame.) This would explain how Balrog explained Misery's role in the Demon Crown's creation in a matter that implied he thought the robots already knew that.

[[WMG: VideoGame/Undertale and Cave Story are in the same universe. (SPOILERS)]]
(I'm also posting this on the Undertale WMG page)

The timeline goes something like this: Long ago, monsters and humans lived together in peace. The monsters were native to a [[spoiler:floating]] island, and the humans came from the surface. Monsters and humans could travel between these places as they wished. That is, until [[spoiler:a monster called Ballos was imprisoned and tortured until [[BeingTorturedMakesYouEvil he lost control of his magic and destroyed a city]].]] This started [[TheGreatOffscreenWar the war between humans and monsters]]. However, the account told in Undertale isn't fully accurate; Humans didn't have any magic, but they did have SufficientlyAdvancedTechnology allowing them to create [[spoiler:an army of [[RidiculouslyHumanRobot Ridiculously Human Robots]],]] and quickly forced the monsters underground. A force field was set around the caves, locking the monsters away.

Ten years later, a group of researchers came to the island, to get betrayed by [[BigBad The Doctor.]] He convinced them to disable the Barrier, and stole the [[ArtifactOfDoom Demon Crown]], [[spoiler:a medium for Ballos' uncontrollable power.]] Using the [[PsychoSerum Red Flowers]], he tried to create an army from the peaceful [[RidiculouslyCuteCritter Mimigas.]] But, thanks to a pair of amnesiac [[spoiler:robots]] left behind from the war, his plans were stopped. And even more, they managed to destroy [[spoiler:[[TrueFinalBoss Ballos]], freeing the monsters from his influence.]] Then, [[FridgeLogic for some reason,]] someone reactivates the Barrier on their way off the island[[note]]I'd say it's probably Professor Booster, but I haven't decided for certain[[/note]].

With [[spoiler:Ballos]] gone, the Red Flowers lost their powers and their color (Becoming known as golden flowers), but retained a few supernatural qualities, allowing them to [[spoiler:capture the essence of a dying Mimiga, or, as they became known later, Boss Monster, and gained sentience when the scientist Dr. Alphys tried using them as [[SoulJar Soul Jars]][[note]]In fact, the stories of Red Flowers [[HulkingOut supercharging]] Boss Monsters may have inspired her to use flowers in the first place[[/note]].]]

Many years later, some humans settled on the island, having either forgotten the war or dismissed it as legend. A human child fell into the underground, since the now-ancient Barrier was starting to deteriorate. After a long, heartwarming, [[spoiler:[[ResetButton timey-wimey]] ]]adventure[[note]]assuming the player does a PacifistRun[[/note]], they [[spoiler:and a restored Asriel destroy the Barrier [[AllYourPowersCombined with the power of all the souls in the underground]], [[GoldenEnding allowing monsters and humans to live together once again]].]]

Well we know why Misery is connected to the crown, but why Balrog? What about him connects him to the power of Ballos? Well, he's a magician, right? Maybe he has the power to create monsters (in fact, he does create numerous red bats and other things during the final fight). Balrog's status as a being is never fully explained, but we do see at the end that he has Bat Wings, and we know that Ballos can create bats. Also, Jenka knows who Balrog is, so maybe they used to be on good terms before Ballos went insane.

I take no credit for this, see [[http://miraigamer.net/forums/showpost.php?p=31073&postcount=2 this]] forum topic. Basically, Curly does a number of things which are illogical and irrational, dangerous, and not befitting of a robot with a purpose such as her own. Upon seeing Quote enter Sand Zone, she immediately recognizes him as a threat to the Korons but rather than confront him well away from them retreats and lets him come right into their home, at which point she attacks him without waiting for any indication of intent or response to her accusations. Right in the middle of the children she's trying to protect. When he beats her, she's extremely quick to trust him, even offering to trade her useful machinegun for his battered and incomplete Polar Star, without prompting. Later, in the Labyrinth, she fails to recognize Balrog as a threat even after he explicitly states that he intends to turn her into scrap metal, even after he ''attacks'' her. When you beat the core and the room fills with water she just freezes up. She doesn't try to find a way out, she doesn't try to bash the door down, she doesn't even respond to or ''look at'' her partner. She just stares at the wall, apparently overwhelmed, until something clicks and she decides to try and save Quote.

* Well, it's possible that Curly is a prototype(as in not all the kinks worked out) and Quote is a production model. This also explains how she got to Sacred Grounds;maybe whatever superpower was running the RidiculouslyHumanRobots program was experimenting with VillainTeleportation. Since they were working on ''Villan'' Teleportation, the device ends up taking a massive toll on whoever uses it;hence why Curly is so beat up when you find her.

[[WMG: The doctor seduced Momorin Sakamoto in order to get onto the expedition.]]
We don't know anything about Sue and Kazuma's father, but Itoh refers to Momorin as "Ms. Sakamoto," which implies that she was single when he knew her -- i.e. when the expedition has happened. We know the doctor conned his way onto the original research team so he could find the Crown, and we know he was a MorallyAmbiguousDoctorate type from the start. This explanation never really made sense to me -- why would a doctor have to talk his way onto a long research expedition?

When you first meet Momorin, she mentions something about taking her chances and working by the doctor's side -- now, why would she do this? -- up until the point he threw her off the island: "Chivalry is dead! But that's neither here nor there..." This is a weird thing to say -- unless it's in a romantic context. It would also explain why Momorin drops the subject, as it is probably awkward, to say the least, to admit to a killer robot who is a stranger that you used to be hooking up with the guy who's about to destroy the Earth. Depending on when Sue and Itoh became Mimigas, this could also explain why the Doctor didn't change her -- presumably he wanted a WeCanRuleTogether situation, then threw her off the island when she refused.

This incidentally also explains why Momorin's Halloween costume is the Bride of Frankenstein....

Since we don't know the Island's original altitude nor its rate of descent (though the latter seems quite rapid in the endings), and because a time limit would make Sacred Grounds [[NintendoHard even]] ''[[NintendoHard more]]'' [[NintendoHard of a goddamn pain in the ass]], Pixel thought it best to invoke GameplayAndStorySegregation and give the player a timer, where InUniverse Quote would have an altitude readout.

[[WMG: Following on the above, the Waterway Cabin was their house before they lost their memory.]]
They were robots intended to pass as human and work in the Island's water-supply systems. They passed as a married couple, which the robots ended up BecomingTheMask and developing actual, human-like emotional processes and connections.

* This explains the presence of Curly's Air Tank; as they would be working in the Waterways, both were provided a means of surviving underwater for extended periods. It's not implausible that Quote simply lost his along the way and Curly didn't realize this in the Core until ''[[OhCrap after]]'' Quote passed out.

* It's also why Waterway Cabin has repair manuals for Curly and Quote, with specific sections for flooded systems. Why robots don't come with technical service manuals in memory spaces close to their operating systems, this troper really doesn't know. They simply accessed backups in Waterway Cabin.

Either whoever gave them the mission to defeat the Demon Crown's holder was ''really'' desperate for helping hands that he recruited two Waterway bots..or he realized their Air Tanks and knowledge of the aqueducts gave them the most crucial part of being a "Scout Robot": allow them to travel at high speed undetected to most any point on the Island and report back information.
