** Sonic and Knuckles are usually fight with each other (sometimes in the literal sense) or exchanging jabs as a result of their clashing personalities. Sonic often makes fun of Knuckles' gullibility, while the quick-tempered Knuckles tends to gets annoyed by Sonic's lack of seriousness and is reluctant to admit that they're friends. * VideoGame/HeavyRain show a deconstructed example in Norman Jayden and Carter Blake. They got themselves a good start when they first met, but as the game goes on, their continuous fighting, mostly derived from having different methods, eventually drives them apart as they go on separate ways in catching the Origami Killer.

Added DiffLines:

* Raul Tejada has this sort of relationship with the Courier in VideoGame/FalloutNewVegas, although it's much more pronounced on Raul's part; he will almost constantly make snarky comments and is the only companion who seems to genuinely believe the Courier is an idiot. If the Courier actually has a low Intelligence score, they will take most of Raul's sarcasm at face value. He will never tone down the vitriol, but once the Courier has earned his loyalty, the "best buds" part becomes more apparent.

** In Origins, many people interpreted Morrigan and Alistair's relationship to be something like this, even sparking a strong shipping base based on their seemingly-SlapSlapKiss interactions, until Darkspawn Chronicles went and jossed the fandom's interpretations, saying that they truly just plain hated each other. could've fooled us, I guess.

could've fooled us, I guess. They're perfectly civil to each other if they both appear in VideoGame/DragonAgeInquisition, at least.

Added DiffLines:

** In VideoGame/DragonAgeInquisition, Krem and the Iron Bull enjoy ripping on each other a great deal, but they're obviously the best of friends.

* VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoSanAndreas has CJ's friendship with Ryder as this. Ryder insults CJ at times, but the two are still close friends,

** Really, this trope applies to all of the mercs. On the one hand, they often take the piss out of one another and can be callous or downright vicious at times (especially in the comics). On the other hand, they're quick to complement each other on a job well done, have helped one another just because (such as in Expiration Date) and have the sort of camaraderie you would expect from a group that has been fighting side by side for six years. Plus, duos such as Heavy & Medic and Engineer & Pyro are often portrayed as very close both on and off the battlefield. Justified as the mercs are comedic sociopaths and Team Fortress 2 runs on BlackComedy.
